_*Kupwara, March 23: The Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police in rural Kashmir toured border district Kupwara on Thursday to review traffic management at the district headquarters in Kupwara.*_

_*The SSP traffic was accompanied by DySP traffic rural Mujahid nazir and several other officers.*_

_*During the visit, the SSP Ravinder Pal singh took a detailed review of the traffic scenario in the border district and directed his subordinates to ensure smooth functioning of the traffic in the town. During the visit, he also listed the issues of transporters and assured them that their issues would be redressed.*_

_*On this occasion, several people who are associated with the transport also apprised the SSP traffic, and the senior officer gave them a patient hearing.*_

_*The officer on the occasion also said that to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, the Traffic Police shall take stringent actions against incidents of rash driving and other such traffic violations.*_

_*On this occasion, motorists are advised to obey and follow traffic rules and regulations and ensure that they rash drive, observe prescribed speed limits, don’t indulge in racing or competition with other vehicles, don’t use a mobile phone while driving, don’t play loud music, and don't use pressure or musical horns.*_

_*Srinagar, March 18 (GNS): Rain lashed plains in last 24 hours, leading to slight drop in mercury at most places, while as weather department on Saturday forecast more precipitation in Jammu and Kashmir till March 20.*_

_*A meteorological department official here told GNS that received 1mm of rain in 24 hours till 0830 hours, Qazigund 3.8mm, Pahalgam 2.1mm, Kupwara 00mm, Kokernag 28.4mm, Gulmarag 0.6mm, Jammu 1.4mm, Banihal 41.8mm, Batote 23.2mm, Katra 5.8mm, Bhaderwah 6.3mm and Kathua 7.4mm.*_

_*Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 6.8°C against 6.6°C on the previous night and it was 2.1°C above normal for the summer capital.*_

_*Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 3.8°C against 4.5°C on the previous night and it was 0.2°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.*_

_*Pahalgam, he said, recorded a low of 2.1°C against 1.6°C on the previous night and it was 2.0°C above normal for the famous tourist resort in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.*_

_*Banihal, he said, recorded a low of 4.4°C (below normal by 0.5°C), Batote 6.1°C (below normal by 0.6°C), Katra 13.0°C (0.4°C above normal) and Bhadarwah 7.0°C (3.1°C above normal).*_

_*Ladakh’s Leh, he said, recorded a low of minus 3.4°C. “Intermittent rain and thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds at scattered places is expected whereas snowfall is likely over higher reaches from March till 20,” the official said, adding, “there is no forecast of any heavy rain and snow during the time.”*_

_*Srinagar, Mar 18 (KNO): At least four persons were killed after a bus they were travelling in turned turtle at Awantipora area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday morning.*_

_*An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a bus turned turtle on National Highway in Gooripora area of Awantipora in which several passengers received injuries.*_

_*They said that all the injured were shifted to hospital for treatment, however, three of them succumbed on the way to the hospital while another succumbed to his injuries at SDH Pampore.*_

_*He identified them as Nasrudin Ansari s/o Islam Ansari of Khairawa Tola Pakri Harditerha West Champaran, Bihar - 845451, Raj Karan Das s/o Shivu as Singhari Gobindpur Kishanganj, Khatia Pichhia , Bihar - 855117, Saleem Ali s/o Mohd Alauddin r/o Hakimnagar Chilhapara, Katihar, Telta Bihar - 854317 and Kaisher Alam s/o Sheo Majaqurul R/O Birnagar Sharifnagar Barsoiqhat, Katihar, bihar- 854317.*_

_*Srinagar, Feb 28 (GNS): The weather department on Tuesday forecast intermittent light to moderate snowfall and rain in Jammu and Kashmir.*_

_*“Intermittent light to moderate snowfall/rain (thunderstorm with rain in Jammu region) is expected at most places of J&K with main activity on February 28th(evening)- March 1st,” a meteorological department official here told GNS, adding, “Dry weather is expected during 3rd to 7th March.”*_

_*He said that the weather system may affect surface transportation over major passes like Srinagar-Jammu highway, Sinthan Top, Sadna Top etc. during March 1-2nd.*_

_*Regarding temperature, he said, Srinagar recorded a low of 4.0°C against 4.2°C on the previous night and it was above normal by 2.5°C for the summer capital.*_

_*Qazigund, he said, recorded a low of 1.8°C against 1.5°C on the previous night and it was 1.4°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.*_

_*Srinagar, Feb 25 (KNO): The government on Saturday said that imposing property tax is aimed at ensuring better facilities for the people.*_

_*Addressing a news conference today at TRC meeting hall here, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir V K Bidhuri, who was accompanied by SMC Commissioner, Athar Aamir Khan as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) clarified that 1/3rd of thr population are already exempted from the property tax as their property area is less than 1000 square feet.*_

_*He added that the Jammu and Kashmir is last in the country where the property tax is being imposed. “Unlike other places, the property tax is very less. The property tax will be collected from those whose houses are built at more than 1500 square feet," he said. He also said that the tax to be paid only once in a year.*_

_*He added that the collected amount will be used for the people and the amount will remain in the account of corporation and municipal committees only.*_

_*Bidhuri further stated that there was no option other than imposing property tax, which would be acceptable to the people, for ensuring better facilities to them.*_

_*The SMC Commissioner, while interacting with media persons, said that the tax that would be collected from people from April will be used for better facilities to people. “At present SMC's revenue is just ten per cent compared to its requirement. This will help in ensuring better services and facilities to the people as the tax cannot be transferred to the central or state government and used for developmental purposes only," he said—(KNO)*_

*17-year-old girl jumps into river Jehlum in Srinagar, operation underway*

Srinagar, Feb 13, KNT: An operation from the River Police is underway to trace the body of a Kupwara girl from the river Jehlum in Srinagar city.

As reported earlier, a 17-year-old girl jumped from the footbridge connecting Sonwar with Gadhanzpora Raj Bagh area of Srinagar into river Jehlum on Sunday evening.

A River Police official told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that since Sunday evening the operation is underway and efforts are on to trace her body.

He identified the girl as Rabiya Afzal, a resident of Trehgam Kupwara......

_*Turkey-Syria Earthquake Death Toll Surpasses 7,700-Mark*_

_*Ankara, February 8: The death toll from the earthquakes that jolted Turkey and Syria has risen to at least 7,726, CNN reported. At least 42,259 people have been injured in Turkey and Syria after deadly earthquakes.*_

_*Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said that at least 5,894 people have died and 34,810 others have been injured in Turkey after earthquakes that jolted the country on Monday. At least 1,832 people have died and 3,849 others have been injured in Syria, as per the CNN report.*_

_*Orhan Tatar, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Agency's general director (AFAD), said that at least 5,775 buildings collapsed after an earthquake hit Turkey on Monday, as per the news report. On Tuesday, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that around 7,500 Turkish soldiers are working in the earthquake-affected region to assist with rescue operations.*_

_*Hulusi Akar also said an additional 1,500 personnel will join the team on Wednesday. Hulusi Akar said that 75 military aircraft have been dispatched to the region, as per the CNN report. He added that nine commando battalions have arrived in the region from the west and four commando battalions from Cyprus will arrive in the region as well.*_

_*On Tuesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared a three-month state of emergency in 10 southern provinces which were hit by massive quakes, Anadolu Agency reported.*_

_*While addressing the State Information Coordination Center in the capital Ankara, Erdogan said, "Based on the authority given to us by Article 119 of the Constitution, we decided to declare a state of emergency."*_

_*"We will quickly complete the presidential and parliamentary processes about the state of emergency decision, which will cover 10 provinces where earthquakes have occurred and will last for three months," he added.*_

_*Erdogan's remarks came after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Pazarcik district of Kahramanmaras province on Monday. Later, a 7.6 magnitude quake centred in Kahramanmaras's Elbistan district rocked the region, affecting several other provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, as per the Anadolu Agency report.*_

_*The third earthquake of magnitude 6.0 hit Goksun, Turkey on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said. The earthquake was also felt in several countries in the region, including Syria and Lebanon.*_

_*In his remarks, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, "Both earthquakes were experienced at a distance of 7 kilometres on earth that exponentially increased the severity of the destruction," Anadolu Agency reported.*_

_*He further said, "It has caused great destruction in a very wide area compared to their counterparts. Therefore, we are faced with one of the biggest disasters not only in our Republic's history but also in our geography and the world."*_

_*As per the Anadolu Agency report, Erdogan emphasized that considering the devastating effect of the earthquake, they ordered expert personnel and vehicles from all over the country to immediately move to the region. He stated that despite the difficulties caused by the weather conditions, the teams struggled selflessly to reach the disaster region and participate in the work.–(ANI)*_
