Scott McLaughlin continued to showed his worth winning the opening race of the IndyCar season.

NTT P1 Award winner McLaughlin drove his Team Penske Chevrolet from the pole to victory by .5095 of a second over reigning series champion Alex Palou, who applied heavy pressure to McLaughlin over the closing laps as they raced among and through slower traffic. Only a year after making his full-time debut at this track, With 13 laps remaining, McLaughlin approached the back of Jimmie Johnson, who was racing to stay on the lead lap. McLaughlin had to find a spot to thread the needle and pass seven-time Nascar champ, and that slight delay helped Palou close to within .625 of a second. From there, the gap between the two lead cars ranged from three-tenths to eight-tenths of a second. It appeared on Lap 96 that Palou might get a chance to try to pass McLaughlin as both cars approached rookie Tatiana Calderon. But Calderon pulled off the racing line on the front straight to let both McLaughlin and Palou past. Palou continued to close on Laps 98 and 99 but couldn’t get close enough to pass.  Devlin DeFrancesco was right in front of the lead pair on the final lap, trying to stay on the lead lap. McLaughlin, who along with Palou was saving Push to Pass power until the final lap to conserve fuel, never let Palou challenge over the final trip around the circuit. McLaughlin led 49 of the 100 laps to earn the victory in his 18th career Indycar start. Full results below.

Austin Cindric delivered team owner Roger Penske the best birthday present he could, a Daytona 500 win.

Cindric drove a masterful race at Daytona International Speedway and the Ford drivers synched their strategy all week, then executed their plan to perfection. They pushed each other over 500 miles and were bunched together for the final restart in overtime. Cindric was the leader on the restart from the top lane and pulled out to a sizeable gap. He then ducked down to the bottom line in front of his Team Penske teammate Ryan Blaney so that Blaney and Cindric could work together over the final two lap sprint to the finish. Blaney on the final lap made his move for the lead, and Bubba Wallace ducked low for his own look at the front. Cindric slid up to block Blaney, but still had to hold Wallace off in a drag race. A crash behind them brought out the caution and Cindric was ruled the leader and the winner. It's the first career Cup victory in eight starts for Cindric, who was promoted from the Xfinity Series to replace Brad Keselowski. At 23 years and 212 days old, Cindric is the second youngest driver to win the Daytona 500. full results below.

Donny Schatz held off a defiant Kyle Larson to win the opening race of the season at Volusia.

Kyle Larson put up a valiant effort in trying to beat Schatz but the ford power of the 15 had just enough to stop the reigning nascar champ. Larson advanced from sixth to second and cleared Schatz with a Lap 26 slidejob, but didn’t have enough to hold off Schatz as they raced wheel to wheel down the backstretch.
Finishing 1.542 seconds behind, the 24-time World of Outlaws winner earned his 16th runner up result with the Series. It was the seventh time that Larson fell short against Schatz. Aaron Reutzel rounded out a great night for himself and the team after earning quick time, winning his heat and the dash he managed to bring the car home in third for his new team. Tanner Thorson has become the 22nd driver in history to top the chilli bowl nationals beating out 380 other entrants for victory.

Chasing Christopher Bell, traffic came into play quickly but would prove ineffective at giving him a shot at the pass. Slowed on Lap 17, the restart saw several drivers start stepping their line up the track. Top by bottom just past Lap 25, traffic was again in the mix until Lap 36 when Justin Grant biked the cushion and tipped over in the second turn.
Stalking the iRacing No. 71w, Thorson threw the slide on Lap 37, taking the lead off the fourth turn. Back after Thorson as the pair sliced through traffic, Bell retook the lead for a moment through the first and second turns with six laps to run. Splitting the slower car of Brady Bacon, the No. 21h ended up going to a ride right between the leaders as he battled for position. Back to green, Bell was set on attack, but contact with the wall let the No. 19t get away. Nearly dropping to third in the process, Bell regrouped and quickly gained ground. Picking up momentum to the final lap, time would run out as Thorson crossed with a 0.688-second advantage. Christopher Bell crossed second with Rico Abreu working back to third in the closing laps. Buddy Kofoid crossed fourth with Tanner Carrick fifth in his first A-Feature appearance. Kyle Larson in sixth was followed by C.J. Leary from 16th. Kevin Thomas, Jr. crossed eighth, followed by Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and Thomas Meseraull to complete the top ten.

Max Verstappen secured his maiden World Championship with victory in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finishing second as the race ended in a nail-biting one-lap sprint after a late Safety Car.

Medium-tyred Hamilton jumped soft-shod Verstappen at the start, while the Dutchman came back in Turn 6, nudging him wide and over the run-off, but the Mercedes driver continued in the lead. Stewards decided not to investigate. The pit window opened when Verstappen came in on Lap 13, Hamilton a lap later, leaving Sergio Perez in the lead with the mission to hold off Hamilton. Perez did exactly that, on Laps 20 to 21, he let max past to continue the chase, before pitting on Lap 22. The podium looked certain until he retired on Lap 56 under a Safety Car, which was brought out for a Nicholas Latifi crash. That Safety Car, during which Verstappen pitted for soft tyres, left the race with just one lap of green flag racing remaining, producing another memorable moment in this epic season. Verstappen did make the pass on Hamilton into Lap 5, the decisive move, and while Hamilton attempted to come back towards Turn 9, there was nothing doing. History was made, as it was always going to be, and the trophy went to the Dutchman for the first time. What do you guys think of the race and the decisions from the FIA?

Lewis Hamilton has won a controversial debut Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Hamilton led Bottas and Verstappen at the start but on Lap 10, Mick Schumacher spun and hit the Turn 23 barriers. The Safety Car turned into a red flag, crucially giving Verstappen a free stop in the pits. The Lap 15 standing start saw Hamilton lead, but Verstappen went off-track at the first chicane, cutting back across Hamilton, who dropped to P3 behind Alpine’s Esteban Ocon. However, there were two separate incidents behind in which Sergio Perez was collected by Leclerc and Mazepin collided with Russell as another red flag was called. The Lap 17 restart would see Ocon start ahead of Hamilton then Verstappen in P3. In that restart, the Dutchman made a terrific move down the inside of the opening chicane for the lead while Hamilton found himself impeded by Ocon, who like Verstappen missed the Turn 2 apex, passing the Alpine a lap later. Three Virtual Safety Car periods followed from Lap 28 to Lap 36 after which Hamilton was in DRS range of Verstappen. The Mercedes driver attempted a move on Lap 36 on the main straight but the Dutchman braked too late for comfort, running wide at Turn 2 and retaining the lead. He was instructed to give P1 back and on Lap 37 the Red Bull driver slowed, only for Hamilton to clip the rear of his rival, taking front-right wing damage. Hamilton closed in and looked to get past on Lap 42 but Verstappen pushed him wide and continued on. This time, the stewards stepped in and put a five-second time penalty on Verstappen. Hamilton came across Verstappen at the final corner on Lap 43 and pushed him wide at Turn 27, taking the lead and putting in fastest lap, eventually winning by 21.825s after Verstappen picked up a 10 second post-race penalty for the brake check on Hamilton.

Chaz Mostert and Lee Holdsworth have won an enthralling Repco Bathurst 1000.

Mostert, who scored pole with the fastest ever Supercar lap of Mount Panorama on Saturday, helped himself to a second Great race victory.
For Holdsworth, it was Bathurst victory No.1 in his 18th start. It was the 35th win for Holden and the first for Walkinshaw Andretti United. It helped Cameron Waters finish second for the second year running, with James Moffat clinching his second Great Race podium. Erebus Motorsport duo Brodie Kostecki and David Russell scored their maiden Bathurst podiums in their third and 12th starts respectively. It was yet another eventful Bathurst 1000 with failures, crashes and even an echidna causing a safety car. There was a total of 6 safety cars and 5 cars that did not finish the 6 hour race. Shane Van Gisbergen was also officially crowned the champion after today’s race even thought a tyre failure late on soured the day for him and the Red Bull Ampol team. Lewis Hamilton has closed the gap to title rival Max Verstappen following a dominant victory in the inaugural Qatar Grand Prix at the Losail International Circuit, with Verstappen recovering from a grid drop that saw him start P7 to finish second, as Alpine's Fernando Alonso took the final podium position.

After a clinical start from pole position, Hamilton was able to control the pace at the front of the field with in indomitable lights-to-flag win, his second in a row after Brazil. But while Hamilton was impressive, so too was Verstappen, who was dropped from P2 to seventh on the grid for failing to respect double waved yellow flags in qualifying.
Verstappen shrugged off the disappointment, though, jumping to P4 at the start before quickly making his way up to second, before following Hamilton home to limit the damage to his title lead, which now stands at eight points as Verstappen claimed the fastest lap bonus point. Meanwhile, there was joy down at Alpine as Alonso returned to the podium for the first time since the 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix, the Spaniard having executed an aggressive drive to survive late race pressure from Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to take third. Perez’s fourth place was a decent recovery considering he’d started P11, while he finished ahead of the Alpine of Esteban Ocon 5th. Full results below.

It didn’t come easy for him, but Daniel Hemric is now a nascar xfinity champion.
Hemric started on the inside lane alongside Championship 4 competitor Austin Cindric in an overtime restart. Cindric initially had the edge after the final restart, but a last-ditch effort by Hemric in Turns 3 and 4 coming to the checkered flag saw Hemric nudge the back bumper of Cindric’s Ford. Hemric and Cindric doored each other to the line and Hemric earned the milestone triumph in a photo finish. The championship marks Hemric’s first in any nascar national series and is the fourth for JGR in the Xfinity ranks after Daniel Suarez won the organization’s third title in 2016. Approaching the finish line, the cars collided side-to-side, with Hemric crossing the stripe .030 seconds ahead of Cindric roughly five feet denying the Team Penske Ford a second straight championship. As a consolation prize, Cindric secured the Xfinity Series Owners Championship for Roger Penske with his runner-up result.

Shane van Gisbergen has benefited from more heartbreak for Will Brown to win the Armor all Sydney SuperNight opener. Van Gisbergen was a clear 17-second winner in Race 23, with Jamie Whincup completing a Red Bull Ampol Racing one-two. It was van Gisbergen's 53rd career win, edging him closer to the 56 recorded by Scott McLaughlin and Garth Tander. It was also the 217th race win for Triple Eight, which is celebrating its 250th round start. However, the Triple Eight duo's quinella run was boosted after pole-sitter Brown's charge was halted by a botched pit stop. Brown crossed the line 12th, and was classified 11th following a time penalty for Anton De Pasquale. De Pasquale's teammate Will Davison defied a challenge from Nick Percat to round out the podium. Ben Rhodes sealed the deal at Phoenix Raceway, winning the 2021 Nascar Truck Series championship in his first ever appearance in the Championship 4. After six full time seasons in the Truck Series, he now has a truck title to celebrate.
The Championship 4 battle came down to the final laps. Zane Smith appeared to be in championship-winning position, but with eight laps remaining, Rhodes found enough speed in his No. 99 Ford to pass Smith, nudging the back bumper of the No. 21 Chevrolet in Turn 2 to get by him. Rhodes finished the race in third. Smith finished fifth and second in the championship standings. John Hunter Nemechek, had his title chances quickly evaporate at the start of the race. A left front tyre went down on his No. 4 Toyota after the start of the race as a result of some contact with another truck. Nemechek lost two laps after pitting to change tires. He earned both laps back and recovered for a seventh-place finish to finish third in the championship standings. The final Championship 4 driver, Matt Crafton, fought an ill-handling No. 88 Ford throughout the night. Crafton finished 12th and took the fourth spot in the final playoff rankings.

Alex Bowman pinched a win from the Playoffs drivers by earning victory in The Round of 8 elimination race at Martinsville Speedway, but it wasn’t without controversy. Bowman spun Denny Hamlin while racing for the lead in Turn 3 with seven laps remaining when he got loose underneath Hamlin, hitting the left rear quarter panel of Hamlin. After the checkered flag fell, Hamlin showed his displeasure by pulling up to Bowman’s No. 48 and sat nose to nose before Bowman began to celebrate his third victory of the 2021 season. Bowman was able to hold off Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski during the overtime restart following the caution for Hamlin. Busch was able to hang on for second but it wasn’t enough to send him through to next week missing out by 3 points he was followed by Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr. and William Byron to round out the top five. The win was Bowman’s fourth of the season and sixth of his Cup career.
The four drivers that will fight for the nascar cup championship are Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr

Shane van Gisbergen has denied Will Davison winning his 12th win of the season at Sydney Motorsport Park. For the second time in as many days, van Gisbergen made up ground on the opening lap to put himself in the fight.
Davison led the early laps, but an electrical gremlin in the #17 Mustang scuppered the veteran’s bid. On a track strewn with spinning trucks and broken hearts, Zane Smith catapulted into the Championship 4 with a thrilling overtime victory in Saturday’s United Rentals 200 at Martinsville Speedway.

In a chaotic race that featured 14 cautions for 89 laps, Smith won under yellow after he, Stewart Friesen and Todd Gilliland raced three wide off Turn 4 on the first lap of overtime.
Contact from Friesen’s Toyota sent Gilliland’s Ford spinning across the start finish line to start the final lap. As Friesen moved down the track to contest the lead with Smith, contact between the two trucks spun Friesen’s Silverado into the Turn 1 wall. With the track blocked by spinning trucks behind Smith, nascar called the final caution, and Smith took the checkered flag under yellow.
Smith’s victory his first at Martinsville, his first of the season and the third of his career was heartbreak for Sheldon Creed, the reigning series champion. Late in the race, Creed slapped the outside wall in an incident involving Matt Crafton and Grant Enfinger, finished ninth and failed to make the Championship 4 by four points. The four drivers in the championship four are.

Carson Macedo has taken a dominant victory winning by the biggest margin of the season.

Taking the lead on Lap Six and never looking back, the Lemoore, CA native drove away to a dominating 5.573-second margin of victory. It’s the biggest beatdown at a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event in more than two years, or 153 races to be exact. His 11th victory of the season brings Macedo to 17 on his career. After leading the opening five laps, Logan Schuchart faded back to third and eventually rallied for a second place. Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing continued their incredible late season surge with a third-place finish. Kyle Larson did the heavy-lifting on Sunday, leading nine different times for a race-high 130 laps, ultimately crossing the finish line a hefty 3.619-seconds ahead of the field to earn a NASCAR Cup Series-best ninth win of the season in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway.
It is the third consecutive race win for the 29-year old Californian and the second time this season he’s won three in a row. The last time a driver won three straight races twice in a season was 1987 when the late, seven-time champion Dale Earnhardt accomplished the feat. As important as the milestone and positive playoff outcome to Larson’s Hendrick Motorsports team, however, Sunday’s victory also comes 17 years to the day that the storied organization lost 10 people including Rick Hendrick’s son Ricky and brother John in a plane crash. Larson’s Hendrick teammate Chase Elliott was runner-up Sunday, nursing a car with some damage after he hit the wall pushing for a win in the final laps. Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch, who are not playoff-eligible and Denny Hamlin, rounded out the Top five. It was an early exit for Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney. He entered Kansas ranked second in the standings. But his No. 12 Ford was hit by Dillon and sent into the wall as the two ran among the frontrunners with only 44 laps remaining. Blaney’s car was unable to continue and he ended up 37th on the afternoon, dropping from second to fifth in the playoff standings, one point behind Kyle Busch, who finished 28th. Only one race remains to see which three drivers join Larson in the finale. playoff points as follows.

1. Kyle Larson - Clinched
2. Chase Elliot +34
3. Denny Hamlin +32
4. Kyle Busch +1
5. Ryan Blaney -1
6. Martin Truex Jr -3
7. Brad Keselowski -6
8. Joey Logano -26
