🎃 Spooky season may be fun and games for most people, yet when we saw a “drop a scary thought” suggestion on Insta, a question pumped into our head: “Well, aren’t scary thoughts just the new normal for Ukrainians?”
While we still manage to continue our daily routines and maintain the responsibilities, anxiety of something horrible happening comes creeping in along every little moment of our lives.
Don’t normalise Russian aggression against Ukraine. Fight #WithUkraine.

🪆🪓 Russia has long claimed to be anti-imperialist, but its history tells a different story.
From the 15th to the 20th century, Russia led at least 9 invasions of sovereign nations in Northern Asia and committed over 30 genocides. Entire cultures were wiped out in a colonial conquest that spanned 400 years, erasing dozens of indigenous nations.
👉 This legacy of imperialism is often overlooked, but people like @maksym.eristavi, independent journalist and the author of the book “Russian Colonialism 101", bring this topic to light.

Attack on Poltava
An institute and a hospital were hit in the Russian attack on Poltava.
Over 200 people have been injured as of the time of this report. Ukrainian president Zelenskyy claimed at least 51 killed. One of the buildings of the Institute of Communications was partially destroyed, with unknown number of people trapped under the debris. An operational headquarters has been set up in the city to assist those affected, and all emergency services are working at the site of the incident.

The recent Russian prisoner exchange evoked a strong Cold War sentiment, underscoring the continuation of Soviet-era practices by the Russian Federation. This practice involves detaining mostly innocent individuals, including opposition figures and journalists, to use as leverage against Western nations.
In Moscow, where the rule of law is absent, the process is straightforward: fabricate charges, accuse the individual, and sentence them to 7–20 years of imprisonment. Russia exploits the fact that developed countries value their citizens and every life is considered precious.
This practice also impacts Ukraine. Reports frequently highlight prisoner exchanges where 70-100 Russian soldiers are swapped for 50-70 Ukrainian soldiers and a few civilians. While there may be legitimate grounds for detaining civilians suspected of espionage, Russia often abuses this, detaining civilians arbitrarily.
The most recent US-Russia exchange involved trading journalists, musicians, and political prisoners for Russian spies and convicted criminals, whose lengthy sentences were justified.

🤔 Does the Russian opposition really condemn the invasion?
Russian politician and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was released from Russian imprisonment on August 1, 2024, stated upon his arrival to Germany that Western sanctions imposed in recent years have been targeting the entire country and its citizens instead of Putin’s regime.
This narrative yet again raises questions about what the actual position of Russian liberals is. Would they stay in Russia if it wasn't for sanctions? Would they then be silent about the invasion and keep living their lives just like they did when Russia invaded Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, Georgia, or Ukrainian Crimea and parts of Donbas in 2014?
For now, we'll just leave here a piece of the interview with Akhmed Zakayev, the Prime Minister of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria's government-in-exile, who offers his views on the matter.

On July 8, a Russian missile strike hit the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv, leaving people trapped under the rubble. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the significance of Okhmatdyt, one of Europe's premier children's hospitals, known for saving and restoring the health of thousands of children.
The aftermath of the attack remains dire, with the number of casualties still undetermined. Volunteers, including doctors and ordinary citizens, are working tirelessly to clear the rubble and rescue those trapped. President Zelenskyy condemned the attack, highlighting that Russia is fully aware of the targets of its missiles and must be held accountable for its actions against civilians, especially children.

Kyiv Rus isn't Russia!📢
In his speech before the full-scale invasion, Vladimir Putin used a couple of arguments regarding the Russian continuous succession of Kyivan Rus in order to ideologically justify Russian war of aggression against Ukraine.
WithUkraine team shows off these justifications as untrue or at least barely legitimate, check the video to see why Rus and Russia aren't the same.
Despite being well-researched, this video is obviously oversimplifying some topics, but we’ll be happy to address any further questions in the comments!
