The Dog, the Cat and the Mat is the first picture book in the Puggy Tales series. The book was inspired by my desire to teach my daughter phonics, in order to build the foundations for her to start reading. I wanted to use words like ‘cat’, ‘mat’ and ‘dog’, where you can read the individual letters (e.g. c-a-t) and put them together to make the sound of the actual word. Try doing that with an irregular word like ‘you’ (y-o-u)! Thankfully, my daughter loved it.

Just sharing something I posted today in response to a question about what I look for in a children’s book:

My picture books are inspired by my nearly 3-year-old. She falls in love with random things from real life (e.g. from visits to the zoo or the local farm) to things she sees on TV. I always couple this with rhyming prose and colourful illustrations that I draw myself. I also like to weave in humour, a gentle lesson or educational aspect that adds value. Interestingly, she regularly chooses my books to read at bedtime over her large collection of Julia Donaldson books and other traditionally published children’s books, which makes me think that I must be doing something right! 🥰 ### just in case it’s of interest, my latest e-book is still free to download for the next few hours.
