a chair, mountains, and a post
I absolutely hated this photo when I first saw it in my camera roll. The mountains were majestic, the chair felt more like a throne, and the moment felt necessary to hold on to like the heat on a cold night oozing out of your sleeping bag. It wasn’t until after this trip that I noticed this damn wooden post….
This post was hulking, brooding, condescending and edgy-but not the good edgy. The audacity it had to loom in front of such a wonderful entourage of nature and craftsmanship. And the preposterous nerve I had to remain where I was instead of mosey on over to port to get a clean shot because I was tapped out from my hike earlier. What’s even crazier is how your point of view changes over time.
Now, it looks peaceful, serene, and I’m jealous that chair had such a stalwart companion this whole time to soak in the view with. Now it’s easier to love and remember everything else that came with it.
So what? Well, I guess I’m trying to say is… whether it’s grilled chicken or a wooden post on a desert deck in your peripherals:
Don’t knock it till you give it some time to marinate.
