The result is a mix of areas to explore, in less touristic centric, outer neighborhoods like the 18th, 19th, or 20th arrondissement. The richness of Paris global culture is one of its greatest assets and an essential part of a contemporary Parisian adventure.

The cafes and bars of Montmartre were a meeting place where ideas were hatched and famous works of art created. And you could even pay for your drinks with your paintings.

For this and other Paris recommendations check out our new episode.

When in Barcelona, you will almost certainly wander around the Eixample, an expansive district with charming modernist buildings and an elegant layout made of ample streets and low-rise square blocks.

The Eixample or “extension” was a revolutionary urban plan built in the late 19th century to respond to population growth driven by the industrial revolution. It was so visionary that it remains largely untouched today, after 150 years.

Its architect, Ildefons Cerdà, was horrified by the conditions of the working class in Barcelona and set out to make his extension of the city a model of clean, safe, and hygienic urban living.

Tune in to the Barcelona episode of TravelZoom to learn more about the Eixample with architecture blogger Fourth Wall (IG: .fourth).

BARCELONA is out now! In this episode, we talk to Carme Ruscalleda (https://www.instagram.com/carme.ruscalleda/), a world-renowned Michelin star chef, to learn about local cuisine and her favorite culinary experiences in the city.

We talk culture with historian Dani Cortijo (https://www.youtube.com/user/danikortijo) and learn how the city transformed after the 1992 Olympics and why Catalans celebrate a pooping log instead of Santa Claus (true story!).

We learn about Barcelona’s exceptional architecture and urban planning with Bruno from the architecture blog Fourth Wall (https://www.instagram.com/wall.fourth/).

And since food in Barcelona is just incredible, we doubled down on gastronomy by interviewing Angelo Duarte Scirocco (https://www.instagram.com/adscirocco/), winner of the San Pellegrino Young Chef, about the differences between Catalan and Spanish cuisine, and the current restaurant scene in the city.
