🔹Service charges levied by restaurants are illegal, the Centre said and asked the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI) to end practice immediately.

🔹The decision was taken at a meeting between the consumer affairs ministry and the NRAI on discussions over complaints by consumers being forced to pay service charges.

🔹In April 2017, the ministry had issued guidelines on the levy of service charge by hotels/restaurants.

🔹The guidelines noted that entry of a customer to a restaurant cannot be itself construed as a consent to pay service charge.

🔹Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asked the Union government to ensure the safety of Kashmiri Pandits in Jammu and Kashmir.

🔹His comments came after suspected militants barged into a government office in Budgam district on May 12 and shot dead Rahul Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit.

⭕Coimbatore businessman Naresh Karthik and his wife Gayathri applied to 22 primary schools for their daughter Vilma.

⭕In every one of them, her application was put “on hold” because the ‘caste’ and ‘religion’ categories were left blank.

⭕None of the schools were aware of the fact that the Tamil Nadu government had passed an order in 1973 and 2000 that allowed religion and caste categories to be left blank.

⭕Having a 'no caste', 'no religion' certificate would mean that Vilma will not be eligible for any government reservation or relaxations based on either caste or religion.

⚖️ “It has been noticed that the attitude of the police to s*x workers is often brutal and violent. It is as if they are a class whose rights are not recognised,” the court said.

⚖️ Justice L Nageswara Rao, who was heading the three-judge bench that gave the order, invoked “special powers under Article 142 of the Constitution”.

⚖️ If a minor is found living in a brothel or with s*x workers, it should not be presumed that the child was trafficked.

⚖️ Proper tests must be done to find whether the child is the daughter or son of a s*x worker.

🌾The government has put a curb on the wheat export by putting this under the “prohibited” category.

🌾In an order issued late Friday night, the commerce ministry said this is being done to manage overall food security of the country and to need the support of the neighbouring and vulnerable nations.

🌾As per the notification, wheat will be allowed only in case of “shipments where Irrevocable Letter of Credit has been issued” on or before the notification.

🔅An official confirmation in this regard came in the backdrop of reports that after the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) has bought two million barrels of Russian crude oil.

⏺️A su***de bomber struck inside a Shiite Muslim mosque in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar during Friday prayers, killing at least 56 worshippers and wounding 194 people.

⏺️Violence started when an armed attacker opened fire on police outside the mosque in Peshawar’s old city.

⏺️One policeman was killed in the gunfight, and another police officer was wounded. The attacker then ran inside the mosque and detonated his su***de vest.

🔆Article 18 abolishes all titles. It prohibits the State to confer titles on anybody whether a citizen or a non-citizen.

🔆It may be noted that Article 18 does not secure any fundamental right but imposes a restriction on executive and legislative power.

🟡Madhya Pradesh School Education Minister Inder Singh Parmar said the state government will soon take a call on banning the hijab in schools.

🌀Kerala Lokayukta is the Parliamentary Ombudsman for the state of Kerala.

🌀It is a high level statutory functionary, created to address grievances of the public against ministers, legislators, administration and public servants in issues related to misuse of power, mal-administration and corruption.

🌀In a controversial move, the CPI(M)-led government in Kerala has decided to bring an ordinance to amend the Kerala Lok Ayukta Act in such a manner that it would have the powers to reject the report of the anti-corruption body.

🌀The amendment is aimed at giving powers to the government to either accept or reject the verdict of the Lokayukta, after giving an opportunity of being heard.

🔅"The state should ensure that there is no use or display or bursting of firecrackers of any type at all during Kali Puja, Diwali celebrations as well as Chhath Puja, Jagadhatri Puja, Guru Nanak's birthday and Christmas and New Year's eve celebrations this year," the high court had said.

🔅It had said that only wax or oil-based diyas may be used for the occasions.

🔅However, the Supreme Court set aside the Calcutta High Court order banning firecrackers during Kali Puja, Diwali, and other festivals this year to check air pollution amid the Covid pandemic.

🔅"There cannot be a complete ban on firecrackers. Strengthen the mechanism to supervise and see that misuse is stopped," the bench observed.
