Sometimes you just know.
I’m Kevin Elliott, co-founder of Wewa Films. That is something I never thought I would say, until I met Courtney.
In addition to producing videos, I am an adjunct college professor. A few years ago the woman who would become my business partner as Wewa’s co-founder walked in to my public speaking class as a student.
She took the class, did well, and friended me on Facebook along the way. One day as I was scrolling, I saw a video that looked like a professional music video for a Mumford and Sons concert. I thought it was one until I saw my student in the video. I looked closer and then realized she had created the video!
The quality was incredible, especially for a kid who was just playing around. I asked her about it after the next class.
“I didn’t know you did video production!” I said.
“I don’t,” she said. “My friend invited my to the concert and I just took my camera along for fun.”
I remember thinking, “Holy crap. What could she do if she were really trying?!”
We finished the semester and went our separate ways. However, she continued posting amazing videos.
Fast forward more than a year. I was in a meeting for a local charity that wanted to launch a school attendance campaign. The group had no money for video production. Did we know any local videographers who could help?
Courtney came to mind. I told the group that I had a former student with real video chops. I didn’t know if she would be interested, but I could ask. I did and she was.
It was our first project. I wrote the script and directed. She shot and edited. We synced instantly and the video came out great.
We had so much fun creating together that we did another project, this time a slick, sexy promo for a fundraiser targeted at men. Again, we clicked creatively.
We did a couple more side projects and then couldn’t find a reason not to start a film production business. I founded and ran companies for 15 years. I now how to manage projects and budgets. Add Courtney’s creative eye and signature cinematic style, and Wewa Films was born.
But what is Wewa? It’s short for a little town in North Florida called Wewahitchka. Courtney is from there and I live a few miles away. My family has camped and canoed there for years. It is a charming, gorgeous place. We both love Wewa, so we named our company after it. And it’s a fun word to say. :)
So that’s our story. Hopefully by now you’ve seen some of our work. If so, you know that everything we create - whether web series, documentaries, or corporate storytellers - feels like cinema, a painting in motion (if not, have a look at our YouTube channel or portfolio web page).
If that’s for you, we’d love to meet and hear your story. Message me anytime through our page or email me at [email protected]. Or call anytime, my cell is +1 (850) 819-4463.
Live your story beautifully,
Kevin
