They say that you never forget where you were when you hears the news about a major tragedy. On 9/11/2001, truer words have never been spoken.
I was a freshman in high school and I was getting ready for French class. About 15 minutes in, the French teacher turns on the TV and there it was: The North Tower of the World Trade Center up in flames. Reports were saying that a plane with passengers aboard has hit the tower, another 15-20 minutes later, another plane hit the second tower, which we saw for ourselves! Another 15-20 minutes later, two more reports have confirmed that one plane hit the Pentagon and another somewhere in Pennsylvania. Shortly after the second plane hit the World Trade Center, the principal made the announcement that President George W. Bush had confirmed that this was indeed a terrorist attack. While we were a bit shaken and we had the option to go home early, we had to continue on with our day as best as possible and not let the enemy gain the upper hand. Despite all this, nearly all public events were cancelled, nearly all major businesses were closed, especially airports, nearly all radio stations and TV channels aired nothing but news coverage of the attacks.
It just goes to show you how bad 2001 in general was in so many ways:
-Mister Rogers hangs up his cardigan for the last time
-Bozo The Clown hangs up his red nose for the last time
-PBS Cajun Chef Justin Wilson dies
-R&B princess Aaliyah dies
-Thuy Trang (Trini Kwan, the original Mighty Morphin' Yellow Ranger) dies
-Vince McMahon buys out WCW and ECW
-The Invasion storyline of the latter companies flops
-Stone Cold betrays the WWF at the main event of WrestleMania X-Seven
-Jimmy Hart's XWF folds after a few short months
-Battledome (Terry Crews' humble beginnings) folds
-Rollerjam folds
-George Harrison of The Beatles dies
-International Clown Hall of Famer Roy Brown (best known for his role as Cooky on WGN's Bozo Show) dies
-My grandfather dies
-I was bullied everyday and considered su***de
9/11/2001 was a time where we as Americans put all of our differences aside and focus on being united; hence United States of America! Fast forward to today, we're divided in so many ways. This is kinda like the wrestling community; we all have differences and argue like kids on a playground, but the only time we come together is when a wrestling figure passes, especially those that were under contract as an active wrestler. Despite our differences, I just hope that one day we'll be as united as we were on 9/11/2001 and respect others for who they are.
As I post this past Saturday's episode of Captain's ARGH-Cade, I dedicate this episode to those that we lost in this horrific tragedy. I send my deepest condolences to their loved ones.
"The time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of many things."But the thing to talk about the most is 9/11/2001 as we play our annual 9/11 game with two of ...
