Humans, as three-dimensional beings, can only view the universe in the first three dimensions: length, width, and depth. However, we have been conceptualizing a fourth dimension since as far back as the fourteenth century, and today, there are numerous theories regarding the existence of the fourth dimension and of dimensions beyond it.

Every year, in over 70 nations around the world, more than 30,000 aspiring young scientists and engineers compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship. However, the VEX program spans even beyond this one major event with a variety of different competitions held year-round at state, regional, and national levels for students with a wide range of interests in this emerging field of technology, which blends applied physics, mathematics, design, programming, teamwork, leadership, etc.

“Self/Less” is a 2015 American science fiction action film that tells the story of a business tycoon and billionaire named Damian Hale who is diagnosed with a terminal illness. He is given an opportunity to go through a relatively new procedure known as ‘shedding’. This procedure transfers his consciousness into the body of a healthy young man, but Damian later discovers that his new life isn’t what he expected, after learning about the mysterious origins of his newly given body.

The HUSH complex uses effectors to enable chromatin compaction and anchors HUSH to the target locus for additional protection. Recent studies into the activity of the complex have revealed how the underlying mechanism to differentiate between self and non-self DNA through detection of intron sequences – providing versatile protection and its unique ability to repress sequences without previous exposure as part of its innate immune response. This is possible as mammalian genes within the genome comprise of coding exons within a vast sea of non-coding introns whilst cDNA, on the other hand, is formed from reverse transcription of intron-less RNA allowing for its recognition.

Depression and anxiety are the main consequences of extrapolated use of social media. Changes such as sleep patterns, headaches, insomnia, difficulty in interacting, mood swings, and stress manifestations (all of them easily triggered during adolescence) are some of the physical symptoms. Stemcuttings was one of the first techniques that emerged with the purpose of rapid propagation and cloning of species; obtaning organisms with no genetic diversity among each other. This agricultural technique consists on the “cutting” of a plant shoot (technical name for stem), where undifferentiated nodes of cells exist within the fragment; with the purpose of making them differentiate by providing specific conditions in temperature, humidity, light and CO2 concentrations.

"KEFFIYEH" is a poem written by umar mohammad. The symbol of palestinian resistance, usually worn around the head or the chest. There is only one factory that produces keffiyeh in Palestine. The part behind the keffiyeh embroidery is associated with the pattern of an olive tree. It symbolises revolution,and emphasizes the palestinian identity.

The Israel-Palestine conflict, while still ongoing today, is rooted in a long period of history.

The place we know today as ‘Israel’ has endured over a millennium of colonization - first by the Roman and Byzantine Empires, in 136 and 390 respectively, then by the Arab Empire in about 635, before consistently being fought over between 1099 and 1291 during the Crusades and attempted Mongol invasions, and then ruled over by an Egyptian class of knights known as Mamluks as a province of Syria until 1517, when Ottoman Sultan Selim the first conquered the territory.

Even in consideration of the current fatalities and destruction, the atrocity that the Russian government can bring is substantial. In contrast to previous years, war no longer consists of merely atomic bombs and arms; rather, with the development of cyberattacks, threats rise, targeting the crucial banking system, water supply, and electric grid that would put people’s immediate lives at risk.

**** PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING ****

The basis behind this project is to express our involvement and dedication to humanitarian issues occurring in the status quo and to demonstrate that being a part of the STEM community doesn't equate to being blind and negligent of the world around us.

The GSYJ Humanitarian Advocacy Project will be named Iris. The iris, a structure in our eye, consists of 240 different aspects that make it unique, nearly 5 times of that of a fingerprint. Hence, despite holding radically different perspectives on humanitarian problems and coming from different cultures, the GSYJ family comes together to voice their diverse opinions and raise awareness on the urgency of certain issues that merit global attention.

Similar to the GSYJ, GSYJ (Iris) will operate on a monthly cycle, and thus the meetings will be held together through the same zoom link. After a discussion at the meeting, we will choose the issue to focus on during the month such as animal rights, child abuse behind athletics, or the Russia and Ukraine situation. However, given that we are not firmly fixing positions and providing a sense of freedom for our members, we require that the articles, art piece, video, or whatever platform you utilize be complete and of high quality by the end of each month which is the due date.
