Mixing, tweaking and mixing some more… singles incoming from @seismic.state and a double album I mixed for Amphetamine.
There’s is so much prep that goes into a successful drum recording session. On average it’s 4hrs setting up before the drummer arrives, then another 2-4hrs setting him up. That’s all before the session starts! It’s so critical to keep the session flowing. Here’s a time lapse of set up, 1 song tracking and pack down. We tracked 19 songs in 4 days, my set up and prep was a huge factor in this!
I spend quite a bit of time editing, prepping and recording hardware into my sessions. Today’s its editing Tom’s, and printing verbs. It’s still faster and way more satisfying than scrolling endlessly thru plugin settings and never being happy.

What distortion? I don’t hear any distortion…
Always working it, gotta get those verse chugs happening!
Someone let me do whatever I wanted with drums on their song, which is a dangerous thing!
I’m getting stuck in to the first round of mix revisions for Scizerac this afternoon. I’m doing my own notes at the same time which is subtle automations and hidden production gems. It’s so sweet when the mix revisions list is not even 2 pages long for 6 songs. I do try very hard to make the first mix nailed. Here’s another teaser…

Getting some final touches in this week on the Scizerac record. Here’s a teaser of one of my favourite riffs. It’s brutal and sounding heavy AF.
Cranking another 12hr+ day, this time getting into some Lizard Prom tweaks. Guitars up, NO PROBLEM. Can guitars be too loud? Well, that depends where you’re standing!
It’s bass print day for Scizerac. Here’s a teaser of what goes on in the low end! Printing the bass through a Darkglass Electronics X-Ultra and Ampeg bass cabinet.
I’m finishing off the mix on an epic track for Lizard Prom today, here’s a sneak peak at the drums and bass in the verse. This mix has been massive and taken about 3 days so far! Mainly due the dynamics, the chorus unleashes all sorts of epic noise guitars, bass chords and insane vocals! So I split the band into two inside my app to mix verse and choruses. It will rip your face off if you’re not ready. Just like the band want.
