🎉 Fantastic news 🎉

As many people will be aware I have campaigned for action on N2O for some years. Evening running a petition to Parliament that got more than 11,000 signatures!

N2O is a dangerous drug and has caused life changing injuries for many people.

Nitrous oxide is one of the most commonly used drugs among 16-24 year olds in England, the government says.

The government is now considering a ban on recreational use and sale of laughing gas.

I’m really pleased to hear this and show what we can do together -

❗️ Flood alert for Middle Tame ❗️

A flood alert has been issued for the River Tame in Tamworth.

River levels have risen at the Water Orton river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today on low-lying land and roads between Water Orton and Tamworth including the Bourne Brook at Fazeley

Expect river levels to remain high until Monday morning (24/10/2022).

Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses.

The full alert is here - https://check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/target-area/033WAF304?ext=-1.534711,52.533143,-1.442145,52.631312

⛔️⛔️⛔️ ASHBY ROAD CLOSURE ⛔️⛔️⛔️

❌ The Ashby Road will be closed from tomorrow until no later than 26th August.

❓ The works are to connect the new estate on Arkall Farm to the sewage network by Browns Lane. This development was approved by Lichfield District Council (and opposed by Tamworth Borough Council).

✅ I have met with the company carrying out the works for the Arkall Farm Developer (Newline Civil Engineering). A big thank you to them for coming out. They showed me the scale of the works and that the road closure is unavoidable.

⁉️ They are installing a new main sewer pipe in the middle of the road (the can’t put it in other sections because of existing utilities in the road).

🚗 The closure is between Browns Lane - neither road junction is obstructed.

⛏ Newline hope to do the works as soon as they can. They are a small family company and will send me updates I can post on Facebook.

⛔️ Locally the diversion is via Wigginton, however I would advise for non-local journeys taking other routes.

❌ Finally, the company doing the works has been recieving abuse, aggression and attacks via email, social media and telephone. They are a company just taking on a job, they don’t want to inconvenience anyone. The development was approved by Lichfield Districy Council (I campaigned against it) and is being built by a housing developer. Please don’t give the company abuse, it’s not their fault.

⚠️ Please do share this closure news and plan accordingly.

Tamworth Borough Councill has been working on this for a year and pulled out all the stops to demonstrate that our town will be a perfect host for such an honour.
