The state government official and partners, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan head of field office, have inspected the construction site of eleven culverts in Bor town, following an alert of flooding in some parts of the town, including Acheny-dier, Langbar, Leudiet, and Arek.
The purpose of the visit is to access the area due to unforeseen flooding, which was recently announced by the national government, and to raise awareness among the public about the progress made by IOM towards the construction of culverts to prevent flooding this year.
Jonglei State Deputy Governor Atong Kuol Manyang led the team of delegates and moved about 20 kilometers away from town to oversee the finished and unfinished culverts on Wednesday.

“Please! Please! Give me some meat?’’ asked the beggar.

“No, I won’t give you because meat comes from goat and goat comes from millet and millet comes after a hard work! Just follow your road, Gat-gualen.’’ Kulang replied roughly.

“I am a poor man, sir.’’ the beggar replied sadly.

“Is ‘Poor’ a clan?’’ Kulang asked sarcastically.

“No, sir, poor is a person who has no resources.’’ the beggar inoffensively replied.

“What do you mean?’’ Kulang asked, surprised. “Were you born poor? I have never heard of someone who was born poor in my life.’’

“My parents passed away when I was young.’’ replied the beggar with tears in his eyes as he reminded himself of his dead parents but Kulang instead asked him what he had been doing all that time since his parents had died when he was young and now he had grown up but the beggar could not understand Kulang’s question in parable.

“Could you give me some milk or beans because I have been hungry for two days?’’ the beggar kept asking, forced by hunger against his dignity.

“I will never give you anything because you have eyes, legs and hands to help yourself but you chose to beg.’’ Kulang said sharply.

“Okay, I see,’’ said the beggar.“But please give me some drinking water and I will go ahead.’’

“I don’t have free water, Gar-guur.’’ Kulang whispered. “Who doesn’t know that water is found in the river in this world? It is only a mother who gives free water to her kids. But I am very sorry to tell you that I am not your mother.’’

“Oh, Gat-Toat Kang,’’ cried the beggar. “Why are you sitting here then? You should stand up and start begging meat, milk and water from
the rich people in Thiäŋ-Nuer land. You are now even poorer than I am!’’ the beggar said after Kulang denied him everything including water which was always given for free across the land.

South Sudan’s Union of Transporters is considering reducing fares this week if fuel stations maintain low prices.
The transporters’ decision follows a significant decrease of fuel prices from over 3,000 SSP to less than 2,500 SSP per litre.
The union’s chairperson, Jacob Lueth Achol said the union may release new lower rates for travel fees on Monday.
"It was a response to the minister’s decision, and that is why we have some monitoring, and on Monday we will make the implementation according to the minister’s order," said Achol.
Last month, the Union had increased inter-state travels fares by 5,000 pounds due to surge in commodity prices.
Meanwhile, a government team led by the new Minister of Finance and Planning, Awow Daniel toured markets in Juba last week in an effort to understand the effects of high prices of good.

President Kiir reopens TNLA, calls on parties to prepare for elections

Juba, Wednesday (April 3, 2024) - H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Wednesday inaugurated the first session of the National Legislature, calling on the citizens to prepare for the December general elections.

The session was held under the theme: "Together building a better future through parliamentary consensus."

President Kiir urged the parties to the agreement to embrace a democratic way of solving issues amicably and shun political violence in all forms.

"Our economy has been affected by global challenges, although the government increased salaries by 400%, still our dependence on oil and depreciation of our currency has affected the economy,” the Head of State said.

“This demands urgent intervention like diversifying the revenues and increasing local production. Thus, the government will secure the supply of fuel and basic commodities” President Kiir reiterated.

The President directed the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to revive old agricultural schemes across the country in a bid to boost food production.

He also told the August House that the Air Traffic Control System has been completed and would soon be commissioned, adding that the country will soon take over the control of its airspace, which will allow the registration of airlines and collection of taxes.

President Kiir also encouraged investors to invest in the country and create employment opportunities for young people.

For her part, Speaker Jemma Nunu Kumba said the National Parliament will double its efforts to ensure that all the prerequisites for elections are met for smooth conduct of the polls.

Lakes State is currently facing an imminent fuel shortage as most of the stations closed their operations on Monday due to the depletion of petrol and diesel reserves.
Long queues of vehicles were sighted at the two operational fuel stations in town, with motorists scrambling to secure fuel.
The Manager of Rafiki Petroleum Station, Abdul Fatah Juma attributes the fuel shortage to the depreciation of the local currency against hard currency.
“If this fuel finishes here, we will still wait for the government to approve the requested the price. This problem is because of an increase of the US dollar exchange rate, it is up and down," said Juma, "A litre of fuel in Juba is sold at 3,000 SSP. And for us here, we bring this fuel directly from Kenya to Rumbek. Once a litre is sold at 3,000 SSP in Juba, then we can’t work here at 2,400 SSP and I think this could be the reason why many petroleum stations stopped to operate."
"For us here, we requested the government to allow us to sell a litre at 3,200 and we are waiting, maybe they will approve it.”

President Kiir and Felix discuss peace in the Great Lakes region

Kinshasa, 25th March 2024- President Salva Kiir Mayardit met with his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi to discuss peace and stability in the Great Lakes region, particularly in Eastern DRC.

The two leaders called for urgent adherence to the Nairobi and Luanda peace processes, initiated by the EAC and AU, respectively, in order to restore peace and stability in the region.

President Kiir, in his capacity as the Chairperson of East African Community, reaffirmed his commitment to finding a lasting solution to the conflict in the Eastern part of Democratic Republic of Congo and the entire Great Lakes region.

President Tshisekedi commended President Kiir for his peace efforts among EAC partner states.

EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki was amongst those present in the meeting.

Governor Futuyo’s bodyguard killed, 4 injured in Yambio-Tambura Road ambush

A group of criminals on Friday attacked a group of bodyguards of Western Equatoria State Governor Gen. Alfred Futuyo who were traveling along the Yambio-Tambura Road killing one person while four others, including a woman, were injured.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj at the weekend, State Information Minister Isaac Mursal confirmed the incident and said the security forces have been deployed along the road to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.

“The incident which happened yesterday (Friday) in Tambura at 5 p.m. is that two motorcycles fell in an ambush by criminals in the area called Moso. Out of the six passengers, one person called Malish who is a National Security Service officer who was a bodyguard of the governor was shot dead and four others were injured, including a woman,” he said. “The other four who were injured have been taken to Yambio and Tambura for treatment after the intervention of security forces from Tambura who came and rescued the victims.”

Minister Mursal added: “The attackers who are criminals went away with the two motorbikes and properties of the victims.”

He referred to the incident as an isolated case that should not be mistaken for the Intercommunal conflict in the past in Tambura and urged the citizens to be calm and get involved in revenge attacks.

“The state government is calling upon the citizens to be calm while the organized forces pursue the perpetrators to make sure they are brought to book,” he stated. “The state government urges the public not to consider the incident as a tribal attack and no tribe should attack another in revenge because the state government is following the perpetrators. The Government of Western Equatoria State sends condolences to the family of late Malish.”

Minister Mursal said the governor’s bodyguards were riding to Tambura to visit their families.

كان السجناء في الاتحاد السوفياتي🇷🇺يقومون بوشم صورة الدكتاتور ستالين على أجسادهم حتى لا يتعرضوا للتعذيب من السجانين👮‍♂️ أو يتم ان يتم اعدامهم ..فلا أحد يجرؤ على ضرب صورة الزعيم الرمز .

من هؤلاء السجناء كان فريدشيتشنكو لوكاليف والذي سجن بتهمة احتيال بسيطة وحكم عليه بالسجن 9 أشهر .

لكن صديقنا فريدشيتشنكو قرر وشم صورة الزعيم على صدره حتى لا يضربه زملائه السجناء أو يتعرض لسوء المعاملة من حراس السجن ...

بعد وشمه لصورة الزعيم بأسبوع واحد مات ستالين عام 1953 لتتحول تلك الصورة على صدره إلى نقمة ..حيث كلما أراد السجناء الانتقام من ظلم ستالين لهم قاموا بتعرية صدره و ضربه بشكل مبرح ...و كذلك حراس السجن .

حيث اخذوا في ضربه و إساءة معاملته بإعتباره مؤيد للطاغية ستالين ... كما اعيد محاكمته و زادت محكوميته ل6 سنوات ونقل لسجن سيء الصيت في سيبيريا وانتهت بإنتحاره عام 1958 .
