The following information became available after the current issue of the newspaper was printed.

The Alleghany Democratic Party will be hosting North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Anderson Clayton on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at two locations in Sparta. At 6 p.m., she will be speaking to members of the party at The Cellar on Evergreen. She will be highlighting the progress made and the future plans of the state Democrats.

A second event, for young Democrats, will be held the same night at Laconia Ale Works at 7:30 p.m. She will be emphasizing how important it is for young people to get involved in Democratic Party activities and to support local and state candidates, as well as those running for office on a national level.

A native of Roxboro, Clayton is the youngest chair of any state democratic party and a graduate of Appalachian State University. Prior to her election as chair of North Carolina Democratic Party, Clayton served as a chair of the Person County Democratic Party, her hometown county.
