Since West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee had no media publication of its own and situation demanded a media to contact the mass to propagate the party's views, motto and programmes, Congress workers felt a newspaper should be published. With the blessings of all Congress minded people and inspiration of both Sri Pranab Mukherjee and Sri Priya Ranjan DasMunshi, Veteran Congress leader of West B
engal Sri Abdul Mannan, Member AICC, Former MLA and Chairman, Media Deptt. of WBPCC personally took initiative to publish a fortnightly Newspaper named SATKAHAN' on and from 01.10.08. Today it reaches in-numerous subscribers of not only the nooks and corners of West Bengal but also to many residing outside the state. SATKAHAN' is published on the 1st and 16th of every English Calendar month since its inception. The contribution of Sri Mihir Gangopadhyay, veteran journalist, the then Member of Press Council of India, New Delhi; President of Indian Journalist's Association, Kolkata, Estd - 1922 ; Founder Member, Indian Journalist Union, New Delhi and former Senior correspondent of a class one daily Newspaper, 'Jugantar Patrika', has shouldered the responsibility as Hony. From his student life Sri Gangopadhyay is a Congress sympathizer and was closely associated with Late Prafulla Chandra Sen, Ex-Chief Minister of West Bengal and Late Atulya Ghosh the then eminent and veteran leader of AICC. As an editor his efficiency is beyond doubt the main reason behind the popularity of `Satkahan'. Now sri Abdul Mannan is working as an editor of this newspaper and sri Mihir Ganguly looking this newspaper as an advisor.
'SATKAHAN"s aim to propagate the feeling of National Integration, Communal Harmony, Patriotism and building up public opinion against curses like extremism, untouchability & superstition among the people will continue. The journey has started and it will continue with the blessings of everyone.
