As Sacramento County is heating up, it's always good to be reminded that pets should never be left in a parked car. Also, check out these other heat safety tips to keep your pets happy, chill, and safe. If the heat feels intense to you, it also feels intense to your pets.

Sacramento, we're officially entering the season where your steering wheel feels like it was forged in a volcano. ☀️🔥

If you're hot, your pets are probably hotter.

A few reminders as temperatures climb:

🐾 Never leave pets in parked vehicles
🐾 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🐾 Test the pavement before heading out
🐾 Make sure fresh water and shade are always available
🐾 Watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke

And please remember: if the weather feels extreme to you, it feels extreme to them too.

A little planning can prevent a tragedy.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and give your pets an extra treat from us. ❤️🐶🐱

Buckling up takes 5 seconds, but its impact cannot be understated. Buckling up saves lives. Do it for you. Do it for your family. Do it today.

Sadly, of the people killed on U.S. roadways in 2024, a little less than half — 48% — weren't wearing a seat belt.

This is your reminder to Buckle up. Every Trip. Every time. ✅

If you're planning to head to the American River this Memorial Day Weekend, throw on some sunscreen, wear a cap, and remember to always wear a life jacket when in the river. Also, respect those around you by picking up your trash - two minutes of effort helps protect and preserve the beauty of the American River Parkway!

Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer in Sacramento County, and families and friends will head outdoors to enjoy our parks, rivers and open spaces.

As you make your plans, we want to share some important reminders to help everyone stay safe, protect our natural resources and enjoy a memorable holiday weekend.

Water safety should always come first. The American River and other local waterways remain very cold this time of year, and currents can be strong and unpredictable. Even experienced swimmers can be caught off guard. Always wear a life jacket on the river!

Open-flame fires are not allowed in Regional Parks. Barbecues may only be used in designated picnic areas. And all fireworks are prohibited in Regional Parks, including both “safe and sane” and illegal fireworks.

Possession of alcohol on the shores and in the American River from Hazel Avenue down to Discovery Park and at Sherman Island is prohibited from Saturday, May 23, through Monday, May 25. This applies to both open and unopened containers.

Parking rates will increase over the weekend to $10 for single vehicles and $16 for oversized vehicles and vehicles towing watercraft.
