Climate & Vegetation

The AEEDA has a damp semi-equatorial climate. In August, the coolest month, the mean monthly temperature is 26°C, while in March and April, the hottest months, it is approximately 30°C. Rainfall is the single most significant climatic factor, with two maxima. The two peaks fall between May and June and September and October, with a typical yearly rainfall of approximately 120 to 150 mm. January to February is the driest month.

A small number of timber resources exist. Most of the areas are rural and covered in a lot of greenery.

The area has an undulating surface and varies in elevation from 50 to 150 meters above sea level. The district's northwest section has the notable highland, a ridge that rises to a height of roughly 180 meters above sea level.

Although both rivers are known locally as Ochi, the district is known for its intense drainage, with the two main rivers being Amissah and Narkwa, named after the sites where they enter the sea. Areas that border Narkwa and extend to the Gomoa West District frequently flood.

Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, a previous competitor for the Guinness World Record, was appointed as a Development Chief (Nkɔsoɔ Hemaa) at Breman Essiam, located in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam district of the Central Region, earlier today. She pledged loyalty to the Paramount Chief of the Breman Essiam Traditional Council Odɛɛfo Afankwa III, the queenmother Nana Efua Esiwa II and the people of Breman Essiam.

SpotLight on Ajumak/Enyan/Essiam District

It has a population of 120,586, 553 Km2 of land size, and a population density of 218 persons per square kilometre. The Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam district shares boundaries with the Asikuma/Odoben/Brakwa district to the North, Ekumfi and Mfantseman to the South, Gomoa West to the East and Assin South and Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese district to the West respectively.

NOTE: The Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam district was created in 1988.

The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Assembly was established in 1988 under LI 1383 of 1988, enforcing the powers conferred by the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development.

AEEDA was set up to promote good administration and the equitable provision of services for the district's overall development to improve the quality of life for people in the district.

Before 1988, Ajumako Enyan Essiam was part of the Breman-Ajumako-Enyan District Council from 1974 to 1978. Ɔkokodurfo Ɔgyeabuo Nana Kwamena Hamma Ababio, Paramount chief of the Ajumako Traditional Council championed the creation of a standalone district from Breman.

The Salvation Army Ghana has a long-standing history with the people of Ajumako Ochiso. On Thursday 25th of July 2024, the Ochisoman Development Association will hand over a parcel of land to the mission. A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a health facility follows afterwards.

These tombs belong to George Maclean, his wife Letitia Elizabeth Landon (L.E.L), and Rev. Philip Quaque. In this post, George Maclean will be the main focus.

George Maclean passed away in Cape Coast on May 22, 1847, after being born in Scotland on February 24, 1801. He prepared the way for the British to colonize the Gold Coast. In 1826–1828 and 1830–1844, he served as an officer in the Royal African Colonial Corps, leading the Gold Coast settlement as its principal administrator.

He established an unofficial protectorate over the Fante nations around the coast, making peace with the Asante empire of the interior and significantly enhancing British power. Even though the colony thrived while he was in charge, he was charged with profiteering and neglecting to outlaw slavery. He wed poet and novelist Letitia Elizabeth Landon in 1838; she went by her initials, L.E.L., and her untimely death a few months later tarnished his reputation even more. After being removed from his position as a council president in 1844, Maclean oversaw relations with the Fante states until his passing.

A popular story often told to visitors of the Cape Coast Castle is that George Maclean and his wife Elizabeth died from malaria as a result of mosquito bites.
