Our target audience is the large number of Americans who emphatically agree with the principles of equality and freedom, but ironically still oppose the marriage rights of same s*x couples. With a few simple messages, we hope to push past the rhetoric, and expose marriage discrimination for what it is… discrimination. When you tell a “traditional” marriage supporter the statistic that 66,000 of ou
r men and women in uniform are gay, you can hear the wheels start to turn. When you remind someone that even 60% of catholics support marriage equality, you can watch their opinions start to shift. By the time you tell them that there are actually more gay citizens in the U.S. than in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Nebraska, Idaho, Maine, Alaska, and Wyoming put together, you see them questioning everything they thought they knew about same s*x couples. By combining the power of advertising with educational design concepts, we want to politely challenge these old views of millions of drivers and give them the time of their commute to think for themselves and hopefully reevaluate their positions – if even a little. Our fund raising goal of $100,000 per state will start soon so please be ready to get involved. Because of upcoming legislation, our first priority is to cover New Jersey in messages of marriage equality… and we won’t stop there. With every $100,000 that we raise, we will be bringing our campaign to another state, then another, and another until all 37 states that discriminate against same s*x couples are covered in our billboards promoting tolerance and freedom. And we’re not just printing billboards… we’re going into subway cars, on street posters, and wrapping busses, too. We’re even looking into mobile projectors and night sky laser ads. We are gonna turn heads and let them think twice about gay marriage. We have a top notch team standing by to get this done. The legal advisor at Marriage Equality USA will be advising us on our priority list of states where we can be the most effective. The brilliant people at The Breakthrough Conversation will help us hone our messages so that they are sure to resonate with people who don’t yet agree with us on this issue. Our veteran outdoor advertising broker will get our ads printed and up anywhere and everywhere. team will get the word out that we mean business. Our friends in the entertainment industry are helping us with everything from shooting the crowd-funding video, to connecting us directly to our supporters for the fundraising itself. We have all the bases covered, and we’re counting on a grand slam from everyone who can swing it to throw a few bucks in the kitty to make this campaign go as far as possible. So we are reaching out to you. All of you. This is not just a gay issue anymore. This is the part where we all decide what kind of society everyone wants to live in. Please pass on the word that billboards will be going up, but how many will depend on the individuals and organizations who have heard enough bigotry from the well-funded “traditional” marriage groups. There is another side to this issue and it’s time that we, as a community, fund our own advertising campaign.
