The Twelfth in Newcastle
Thousands of people flocked to Newcastle in County Down on July 12th, 2018 to watch the twelfth demonstration which was being held in the seaside town for the first time in ten years. Castlewellan District welcomed lodges from Ballynahinch, Lecale, Saintfield and Comber as well as brethren and bandsmen from Mourne District, which includes the world's biggest lodge, Ballyvea LOL 343a.
Old Bridge at Spelga Dam reappears!
The old bridge at Spelga Dam has been exposed due to low water levels caused by the recent dry-spell. The 19th century bridge which was constructed along with the road from Kilkeel to Hilltown around 1801, has become a temporary tourist attraction, with hundreds of visitors eager to view the relatively unusual sight for themselves.

Tall ship ‘Johanna Lucretia’ in Strangford Lough
🌞⛵ WOW Tall ship, the ‘Johanna Lucretia’, a topsail schooner, made for an impressive sight as it sailed into the serene waters of Strangford Lough last week. On board was first mate and former Down High student Josh Neely who dropped anchor off his home town of Killyleagh.

Floella Benjamin at Drumlins Integrated
Well-known actress, author, television presenter and parliamentarian Baroness Floella Benjamin, visited Drumlins Integrated Primary School in Ballynahinch.
The former Play School presenter had been invited to Drumlins by its pupils who wrote to her before the official opening of the school last year. Baroness Benjamin led a special assembly which featured stories and songs as well as her recollections of overcoming the difficulties she faced following her family’s move from Trinidad to England.

HOUSE DESTROYED IN OVERNIGHT BLAZE
Over 50 firefighters battled an overnight blaze in Dundrum. People living in the Church Avenue area of the village have praised the fire & rescue service. Eight homes had to be evacuated. An investigation has been launched.
