M.A. Littler's latest opus, Beyond the White Rains, subtly reflects the dichotomy of man, mind, and place. In Littler's singular style, the film juxtaposes an author's interior landscape with the dramatic exterior of a remote coastal setting. Set within the interior of an old whaler's cottage, the film captures the ever-changing weather, the impervious sea, and moving clouds, reflecting a lifelong study of the interaction between man and place. Enigmatic, elegiac, and at times eerie, the film's pared-down images and otherworldly sound design reveal both the external beauty and the haunting interior landscape..

As of late last night, we reached the 5000 $ goal of our Crowdfunding campaign. The campaign will continue for another few weeks & additional funds will be spent on a film festival/screening campaign & printing an accompanying book of poetry. A few personal words: So far, this campaign has been highly unusual -- perhaps due to the nature of the project. This time around we had only a very small number of contributions but the contributions were exceptionally high. Unlike previous films where many contributors were personally unknown to me, I have had long-lasting relationships with most of the contributors on this campaign. I recently told a new friend that I used to make films for a few thousand connoisseurs of alternative cinema but now I make films for a few dozen. Oddly enough this sits quite well with me. I make personal films -- I make films for my friends.

Thanks to a massive donation this morning, we've had the best first week of any crowdfunding campaign we've done in the past 15 years. Crowdfunding is awkward and embarrassing, yet it is the only way to bankroll truly independent forms of cinema. I make the kind of films that I would like to exist but that don't. I make films knowing that the lack of traditional narrative, the slowness, and the occasional heaviness have little to no entertainment value. Yet for good or ill these films are my contribution.
