Launch of child Aadhaar enrolment campaign titled “Aadhaar For My Child” by the Hon’ble Chief Minister on Children’s Day’s programme organised by Education Department on 14th November 2022 at Chintan Bhavan

The Hon’ble Chief Minister launched the “Aadhaar For My Child” campaign on the Children’s Day programme organised by Education Department on 14th November 2022 at Chintan Bhavan, Gangtok. The Baal Aadhaar campaign is being organised by the State UID Nodal Department- DESM&E in collaboration with Health & Family Welfare Department.

Under this campaign, Aadhaar enrolment camps for children below 5 years will be organised in various health institutions and permanent child enrolment centres will be established by DESM&E in coordination with Health & FW department in selected health institutions. Child Aadhaar also know as Baal Aadhaar, is blue in colour and is issued to children below 5 years of age including new-borns. No biometrics of the child is taken while issuing Baal Aadhaar. Demographic details are taken from the Aadhaar of one of the parents. Baal Aadhaar is also of 12 digits and needs to be updated with the biometrics of the child when he/she turns 5 years. A final set of biometric data has to be updated when the child turns 15 years. When the child turns 5 years and submits his biometric data, he is issued a normal Aadhaar card. Baal Aadhaar is like any other Aadhaar card and is an initiative to provide government approved identity to children under 5 years which can be used for any services and welfare schemes.

The Aadhaar (Targeted delivery of financial and other subsidies, benefits and services) Act 2016, has been passed by the Parliament and has received the accent of the President of India. The Act provides for, efficient, transparent and targeted delivery of subsidies, benefits and services, to all individuals by assigning unique identity numbers.

The State UID Nodal Department- DESM&E has achieved a very high Aadhaar enrolment of more than 93% and has been awarded the Excellence award for Aadhaar enrolment by Unique Identification Authority of India, GoI. Till date, Aadhaar of 6.34 lakh persons have been generated and around 97% of the adult population of Sikkim has been covered. Today, the healthy Aadhaar coverage of Sikkim has helped the various stakeholders to implement welfare schemes and services for which Aadhaar is required.

As Aadhaar has been embedded in the life cycle of the resident, therefore, with a view to empower the children, State-wide “Aadhaar For My Child” campaign is being launched.

Nitin Gadkari approves Rs 68,000 cr worth of road projects in four north-east states

Gadkari said that projects worth Rs 50,000 crore for Assam, Rs 9,000 crore for Meghalaya, Rs 5,000 crore for Nagaland and Rs 4,000 crore for Sikkim were approved

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday approved a slew of new road projects, valued at Rs 68,000 crore, in four Northeastern states to make international standard surface connectivity.
