Since then, the society has been playing strong role in the field of alternative film movement. JSFS in Recent Times:
We like to inform that the major mission of JSFS is to create some conscious viewers of good movies towards fulfilling its mission, JSFS successfully organized various film oriented program like film festivals, film appreciation courses, seminars, film sessions etc. along with oth
er regular programs like retrospective, weekly study circle of films. JSFS is an active member of Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh. Successes JSFS mad e its journey through a one-da y film session on 9th March, 1999. There after it organized 42 film sessions which became successful with the joining of mention- worthy number of viewers. JSFS set some milestones in the alternative film movement. Short Film Session,12 August 2OO 2 comprises of seven films of seven pioneers short-film makers of Bangladesh. Summer Session, (20 May 2004) screened 'Children of Heave n' (Iran ), 'Run Lola Run' (Franc e) &'Fifty First Dates' (USA). Film for Fresher’s (26 & 27 June, 2005) to welcome the 34th batch on the campus. War Session (21 August, 2005) Commemorating the Hiroshima Day with 'Empire of the Sun' (USA), 'Red Cherry' (China ) & 'Mangal Pundey' (India) . SBSL 1st International Film Week, 2006 (12-18, March) JSFS arranged international film week for the first time in Jahangirnagar University that showed 20 great films from different countries of the world, through which the entire group of great directors and actors became alive for seven days at Jahangirnagar University Central Auditorium . This film week highly encouraged to render the best taste among the movie lovers through the week long festivity. Eclipse Session (16 & 17 September, 2006) considering film as a voice against social & political crisis in the country.
2nd International Film Week (16-22 April, 2008) JSFS arranged international film week for the second time in Jahangirnagar University included honorary reception to Mohammad Khashru & Selim Al-Deen, Cell-Camera Film Making Contest and 19 great films from different countries that were appreciated all over the world considering the international fame and also the cultural domain. A splendid souvenir was published to mark the occasion.
‘Arek Falgun: Bangla Chalochitra Utsab-1415’ 13-16 February 2009 For first time in the campus JSFS dedicate 7 days inspiration on Bangla films. Pink Floyd: Live At Transport, 11 April 2009 JSFS presented documentary on legendary band Pink Floyd to pay homage and discuss contemporary issues. Rock Session 3-5 May 2009 Nine rocking movie from all over the world. Screening Of ‘Je Shahor Chorabali’ 26 27 October 2009 a film by Shuvashis Roy on street child and drugs trafficking . Screening Of Al-Badar 15 December 2009 JSFS’s founding secretary Fakhrul Arefin’ s film was screened on de man d tribunal for war crimes.
