Today is hard. As we honor the million plus Armenian lives lost to genocide in 1915, we’re still processing the latest ethnic cleansing that took place just last year.
This moment has been marked by grief, disbelief, hopelessness, and utter confusion. The lack of media coverage has left us with many questions. To get a better understanding of what’s happened in the region, we spoke with our dear friend, contributor, and walking Wikipedia, Greg Nemet (), who generously shared his extensive knowledge about Artsakh and Armenia.
We’re introducing a multi-part series “What Happened in Artsakh,” which we’ve transcribed and abridged from our 3 hour long interview in March. We will be sharing it in parts periodically in the next few months.
The Hye-Phen aims to showcase diverse voices and opinions. Greg’s opinions are his own. What brings us together is a shared desire to preserve Armenian culture and our homeland, to exchange knowledge without judgment, and continue to imagine a future for Armenia.
We hope to demonstrate that it’s okay to not know everything, to not be perfect, but to feel empowered to learn. All that matters is that we keep caring and we keep trying together.
We encourage donations to The Lorik Humanitarian Fund () via their website or Venmo -chaf to provide housing for refugees who have been forcibly displaced from Artsakh.
The Hye-Phen is a fully independent, self-funded platform. If you feel inclined to support us, you can donate via CashApp ($HyePhen), Paypall () or Venmo (-Phen).
