Shiva’s grief over Sati’s death led to the creation of Virabhadra and Bhadrakali, who worked together to wreak havoc at the sacrificial place. They decimated nearly everyone present, including Daksha who was decapitated by Virabhadra. However, Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu intervened and convinced Shiva to restore Daksha’s life, but with a goat’s head as punishment for his arrogance and disrespect towards Shiva.

Sati wanted to attend her father’s yajna, but Shiva forbade her. In her fury, she assumed the form of the Divine Mother and multiplied herself into ten forms, known as the Das Mahavidyas, guarding each direction and preventing Shiva from escaping.
