'Bog Spirits'
The season of Samhain is nigh...
Being an Irish tradition, it's an opportunity to explore our rich history and heritage.
Long before the church co-opted it in the 9th century, what became All Saints Day and later Halloween was initially celebrated as a liminal, or threshold, festival - when the boundary between our realm and the Otherworld thinned, allowing supernatural beings and the souls of the dead to cross over. This included the Aos Sí - spirits and fairies considered to be remnants of the Tuatha Dé Danann, our old pagan gods.
In the Celtic calendar, this transition from harvest season into winter also marked the beginning of the new year, just as their days began and ended at sunset (can't help but wonder if they might have been on to something with that).
Here's a new direction then, something original that taps into the landscape and folklore around us. I'm excited to share it with the world.
Taking further steps into the realm of live electronic music, this experiment merges a few things together in a style I like to call Psychegaelic.
