To all friends, writers, and readers who came to support me at my first book signing event at this year's MIBF, I have three things to say:

First, you made my dreams come true.

Second, thank you from the bottom of my heart for being part of this significant moment in my life.

Third, your presence and support mean more to me than words can ever say.

See you all again soon.

Last year, I had my first-ever book signing session at the Manila International Book Fair with 8letters where I was fortunate to meet readers and writers that I only knew of online.

It was a surreal experience, something I will always remember.

8letters is at BOOTH 241 at the Manila International Book Fair from today until September 15.

TAKING THE NEXT RIGHT THING TOWARD A NEW BEGINNING

https://medium.com//taking-the-next-right-thing-toward-a-new-beginning-adf3fbf1c918

After two years, I felt ready to move forward.

The most excruciating part is potentially severing the relationships I worked so hard to build. My biggest achievements in Hanoi were my supportive friendships and communities.

My friends and I enjoyed each other’s company, worked together to make a small impact on underprivileged groups, and openly talked about life stories over hot noodles.

In the longest-running study of happiness, Dr. Waldinger and his group found that good relationships “keep us healthier and happier.” It’s the quality of our relationships that determine our life span.

Was I cutting my life short by doing this?

"Finding real friendships in a foreign place is a hit-or-miss. Schedules don't align, people come and go, and personalities often don’t match. In this aspect, I consider myself quite lucky, as I know how challenging it could be.

With these budding relationships, there's no history necessary, only a plan for when and where to meet next. It's simply the telling of one's present life."

5 WRITING LESSONS FROM AN INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER

A serendipitous moment put me in the same city and book shop as Dr. Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, Vietnamese poet and novelist. I was fortunate to have spent over an hour and a half with her, listening, absorbing her energy.

Here are five lessons I learned from attending that event:

1. Be ethical during your research.

Whether you are writing fiction or non-fiction, honor your interviewees’ stories and treat them with utmost care. Use your writing skills as a way to tell their history and make a change.

2. Use your writing for good.

After publishing a newspaper article about American veterans searching for their wives and children left behind in Vietnam, she was able to help families to reunite.

3. Stay healthy in your mind and body.

Develop the discipline to write by disconnecting to the internet, exercising daily, and consuming nutritious food.

4. Talk to the elders.

Instead of spending time on social media, why not talk to the older members of your family and community instead? Learn about their childhoods, their homes, and how life was like when they were younger.

5. Be childlike with your interactions with readers.

During the talk, the author’s joy and energy showed as she spoke. She was overjoyed by the number of people who came to see her, and her love for life was contagious!

Thank you The Bookworm Hanoii for this event. We hope to see her back in Hanoi again! And big thanks to Bookish Flights for the book recommendation!

Danica JD Hynson's books are now on the shelves of a school library!

My books, Wrong Words and Of Fools and Fantasy, are now at BFCSI Official's library 💚

First of all, I'm sorry it took this long. 😂 As one of the alumni of the institution, this is also my way of saying thank you for the time I spent as a student, no matter what rollercoaster of a ride that was.

I hope students will be encouraged to read books and test the waters in creative writing.

Thank you to the school principal, Mrs. Belinda G. Magdale, for the seamless exchange, and to the teachers for the warm welcome.

Also, thanks 8letters and ma'am Cindy Wong for encouraging writers to go far and beyond. ✨
