The Ombudsman received over 6,000 complaints about economic rights, with a rise in fraud cases involving loans issued using personal data. Online loan fraud in 2024 caused 15 billion soums in losses. Fraudsters posed as payment company or Central Bank reps, and despite law enforcement halting debt collection, banks continue to demand repayment. The Ombudsman has filed lawsuits to annul some credit agreements.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a decree to develop Uzbekistan’s pharmaceutical industry. The Pharmaceutical Development Agency will oversee investment projects, digitalization, and the production of dietary supplements and cosmetics.

Key initiatives include WHO prequalification for the Center for Pharmaceutical Safety, the establishment of five medicinal plant plantations by July, and new processing enterprises by 2026. Investment funds will support pharmaceutical and biotech startups, while Pharm Service will provide industry consultations and marketing assistance.

The exit from the Small Ring Road to Mahtumkuli Street has been reconstructed to enhance traffic flow and safety. In 2024, 63 foreign companies providing e-services in Uzbekistan paid a total of 115.8 billion soums in taxes—1.5 times more than in 2023. Meta led the contributions with 41.7 billion soums, followed by Google (29 billion) and Apple (27.3 billion). Other major taxpayers included Amazon, Booking.com, Netflix, Zoom, Acca, Xsolla, and TikTok.

Foreign e-service companies are required to file tax reports and make payments quarterly, with deadlines set for the 20th of the following month.

The Customs Committee has launched the test operation of the Navoi customs checkpoint, located at the Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan border in Tashkent region.

Uzbekistan will continue to operate the Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif railway through Sogdiana Trans, a subsidiary of Uzbekistan Railways.

Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov met with Afghan officials to discuss accelerating the Trans-Afghan Railway construction. The contract for operating the 75-km line, reconstructed in 2024, has been extended.

Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan are also collaborating on the $7 billion Trans-Afghan Railway project, with equipment expected to arrive for construction.
