Formerly using 2 Motorola UHF GM-300 Mobile Radios. As of July 2016, now using two Kenwood TK-8180 Mobile Radios (Receiver set to 467.675 PL 141.3 Travel Tone) and (Transmitter set to 462.675 PL 141.3 Travel Tone) using an Aston 20 Amp Power Supply. The antenna is a Diamond X50C2 using 1/2 inch hardline, The controller is a ID-O-Matic IV. The antenna is at the 50 foot mark on a 70 foot tower at over 1,900 feet elevation on Bald Eagle Mountain just south of Williamsport, PA on Skyline Drive where numerous other towers are located. GMRS channels can be found in some of the FRS (Family Radio Service) radios but are not able to be used for repeater operation as they are limited to Simplex/Talkaround only. You will need to use a UHF radio (462 MHz) programmed to 462.675 Receive and 467.675 Transmit and the CTCSS tone is 141.3 both on receive and transmit in order to use the repeater and of course be in its coverage.
Some of the info changed in 2017 which can be found on the FCC.gov website by searching for GMRS. There is a fee for your license but this fee covers everyone in your family. You are issued an FCC callsign which you are responsible for and the users in your family that use it. While in use your callsign has to be said once per 15 minutes and at the end when signing off. There are common rules for GMRS which are readily found on the FCC website as well. Keep it clean and professional so everyone can enjoy as there is all ages that can be listening or using. Instead of names, you could use radio type identifiers ie for me it would be WQGU515 but it could also be WQGU515 to portable 205 to mobile 221. Do everyone a favor and do your homework. All the info is online or post the question on the page.
