Today’s review…another celebrity-beloved brand, the Spacedye leggings by Beyond Yoga.

Beyond Yoga’s Spacedye leggings (and the line in general) are the softest—yet most durable—I’ve come across. I’ve worn softer, but they tend to pill over time, and get worn down by frequent washes. This buttery soft performance fabric is crafted from a polyester-lycra blend that has a 4-way stretch, and features moisture-wicking properties (seriously, sweat wicking), as well as built-in UV protection. They’re also thick enough to give you that sturdiness you need for high intensity activity.

The Spacedye is lightweight and offer moderate compression without being too restrictive and run tts.

One of my absolute favorite features of the Beyond Yoga leggings (Midi) is the very wide and very high waistband. At 5” wide, it's both flattering and comfortable and hits at just the right point on the waist. It's also snug enough that it doesn’t fall when running or in a favorite movement pattern of OTF, the hip hinge.😆

These leggings offer a variety of color, currently, I have been living in the red. They also range in sizes from XXS to 4X.

A pair of Spacedye leggings will run around $97 (leggings with pockets are $99). This is pretty much in line with competing brands (for example, Lululemon Align leggings range from $98-$118, and Alo Yoga Alosoft High-Rise leggings go for a comparable $98).

These Uber soft performance leggings are definitely worth the hype.

Another viral sensation I recently stumbled across, is the popular brand, HeyNuts. This Amazon favorite has nearly 12,000 5-star reviews and thousands of those reviewers saying these leggings rival some of the best on the market at $28.

HeyNuts Essential leggings come in 21 colors and sizes that range from XXS-XL. I tested the 25” (Essential 7/8 legging). I ordered the Small (my true size) and the XS based on the reviews, and I preferred the fit of the XS. So, if you are between sizes, go for the smaller size. The soft matte fabric is crafted from 70% nylon and 30 % spandex which offered a comfortable four-way stretch, and moderate compression. (A great combo for high intensity work).

These leggings are similar in design to the Lululemon Align with a few key differences. The HeyNuts leggings are brushed inside and out, resulting in a more buttery soft and supportive feel rather than a ‘Naked Sensation’ fabric. Another noticeable difference is the built-in compression panels that hold everything in place, in the best possible way!

The 5” high-rise waistband is double lined, supportive, and slip-proof. This smooth waistband also features an interior card pocket near the hip.

Lightweight, compressive yet comfortable, durable, and moisture-wicking. Sweat was only slightly noticeable as I tested a lighter color legging, but was dry within a few minutes post workout. 👍🏻

On the weight floor, the Essential legging provided good mobility, flexibility, support, and was squat-proof. All my boxes were checked!

Overall, I totally agree with the thousands of other reviewers, this legging is luxury at a fraction of the cost. I’ve already ordered three pairs and this legging has landed as one of my top picks for OTF.

I have to admit, I often struggle to find budget options that compare in quality and performance to my favorite high-end leggings. So, after some research, and a need to justify my coffee addiction, I stumbled upon a brand that has recently gotten a lot of attention. Many fellow activewear influencers are shouting out the same $32 pair and tagging them as the “Best Lulu Dupes”. I knew, I wanted to test them out for myself.

Drumroll please….the brand: CRZ YOGA
The leggings: Butterluxe Workout Leggings.

CRZ Yoga was founded in 2005 with a desire to create health-inspired, affordable, high quality athletic apparel. It’s only been the past couple of years that their line has gotten amazing press and attention in the fitness and athleisure world.

This legging is a buttery, stretchy blend of lycra and polyamide that contours to the shape of your body and offers slight compression throughout. The fit is identical to the Lululemon Align legging, the feel is actually softer, and I love that you have the option of pockets.

The 5” seamless waistband is compressive and slip-proof. Fits TTS, however, these leggings were made for movement, so if you prefer moderate compression, size down. CRZ Yoga offers a variety of inseam lengths from 17”-30”. I tested the 25” length that hit right above the ankles.

The material is lightweight, comfortable, and durable. The minimal seams, a big plus for runners and sweat was easily wicked away due to the breathability of this fabric. So impressed!

On the weight floor, the Butterluxe legging provided good mobility, flexibility, and was squat-proof. I would have loved a bit more support through the backside at times. (Sizing down can help here).

Overall thoughts: similarities are noticeable but differences are minimal.
The style, fit, design and functionality all proved worthy of the title, “Best Lulu Dupes.” A good choice for OTF.

On a side note, I have tested a few other leggings from this line, another fav is the Naked Feeling Workout Leggings. This pair feels more like silk, cool to the touch, and like a luxurious hug. I am definitely a fan!

My review of the Alo Airbrush High Waist legging:

Aloyoga is a relatively new LA brand that has grown in popularity among the fashion-forward and celebrities alike. Their mission is to create the best clothing for yogi’s and to inspire mindful movement that leads to better living.

Each new piece is designed around current trends, which allows mindful movement to carry over to the street for their style.

I have to admit, I have thought about buying Alo leggings several times over the past few months, especially scrolling Instagram.

I was truly curious to see if these fashion forward leggings made for low impact movement could stand up in an Orangetheory class.

I decided to try the Airbrush HW legging based on popularity, reviews, and price point($98). For the try-on, the brushed polyester and spandex blend was the softest performance knit (cotton-like), yet offered a good amount of stretch and flexibility. Light compression that seemed to sculpt and lift in the most flattering way.

The full length legging has a 28” inseam, but at 5’5” these seemed EXTRA LONG, with quite a bit of fabric left at the ankle. Also, the top of the 3” waistband hit me just under the belly button which felt more like a mid-rise. (I typically think at or above the belly button is a good indicator of a true High rise). The waistband also contained a hidden pocket in the front, big enough for a key. Minimal seams, with a 5” front seam.

On the weight floor, the Airbrush legging provided great mobility, support, and was squat-proof. This legging stayed in place and provided a perky lift. 🍑

However, the trendy fit of the Airbrush was a bit uncomfortable on the treadmill and in other high impact movements, as the front seam was bothersome. 🐫😬 Sweat-wicking, but would have loved more breathability.

One suggestion could be to purchase one size up, especially if you like more of a true high rise, as this will provide more length. Sizes range from XXS-Large.

This legging was truly made for yoga or fab street style. pics

On another note, the Alo Yoga Airlift ($128) is the most popular legging and could be worth a try. Aloyoga.com

My review of the Splits59 Raquel High Waist Flared legging:

This trendy HW legging fits true to size, offers a tight supportive fit in the waist and through the leg with a 16” flare opening that relaxes at the calf. I have always loved this style (I am so happy it is making a come back) as it always seems to elongate and slim the body. There are three overall lengths (30”, 32”, 34”) to select from (cheers for all the tall girls).
I chose the 30” length and it was about 1” too long for me (for reference, I am 5’5”), so for testing purposes, I simply rolled the bottom hem under (I will be getting these tailored ASAP).

Let’s talk about the fabric; smooth, peachy, and figure-sculpting (similar to Zella’s Live-In HW leggings). Minimal flat-lock seams, longer inseam at 32”.

This style offers a variety of rich hues (dark chocolate was my pick) to elevate your winter neutrals, or dare to try two trends and add a 90’s side stripe (for all the adidas love).

Sweat was no problem for this legging, it was moisture-wicking, breathable, and so fun to wear in the studio!

On the treadmill, of course the rolled hem came loose while jogging, so I ended up only power walking. My biggest tip: be sure the length is appropriate for your height and sits slightly above the base of your shoe.

On the weight floor, the Raquel legging provided good mobility, support, and was squat-proof. Surprisingly, the rolled hem stayed in place while performing pop jacks and burpees. It really is the perfect amount of flare. All the boxes were checked!

This legging was made for low impact activity, making gains, and pics! I will definitely be wearing these on rotation outside the studio with a cropped t-shirt or for an elevated look on a Green Day at OTF.

Side note: The matching Bralette in dark chocolate is AMAZING! Buttery soft and fits like the Lululemon Align tank, but with a square neckline. If you would like more info on the tank - Send me a DM! 🙂

A bit of a studio splurge, retailing at $108 - but so worth it! Will you dare to flare?

Performance and Practicality 4 / 5 splats

Splits59 is quickly becoming one of my favorite brands! Every legging is made for a specific purpose, and offers elevated chic style, quality fabric, and is made for movement.

First, let’s talk about the feel and comfort of the Splits59 Kinney High Waist TechFlex 7/8 leggings. This legging is made from moisture wicking, quick drying technology that feels cool to your skin (perfect for a sweaty OTF sesh). The Kinney is a true performance legging, slightly thicker than the Rigor (another Splits:59 love) with moderate compression throughout. Smooth, minimal (flat-lock) seams, mixed with a longer inseam at 26” provided no fear of chaffing. Sorry runners, no pockets on this legging. True to size and hit right above the ankle.

On the weight floor, the Kinney provided great mobility, support and was squat-proof. The 4” waistband had the perfect amount of compression and these babies stayed in place!

This legging can do it all and is perfectly suited for a mix of high impact activity and resistance training inside a studio or gym.

The Kinney comes in four rich colors; dark blue, marigold, sky blue, and tuberose. Head to their website today to pick up this high performing all star! The best news - it retails for $108, but is on sale for $76.

Fashion trends for early 2023, give a nod to the 90’s with black leather, vivid colors, and varsity jackets.

Moving into spring, we should see a softer, more feminine vibe. As lace, ultra femme sheers, tulle, and bubble skirts (love) will emerge. Metallics and oversized blazers are also projected to be key trends.

2023 looks to be a good mix of elevating the everyday attire in a way that is expressive, yet beautifully put-together.

Color trends: Runways across the world showcased warm, earthy neutrals (chocolate, apricot, camel, olive). As well as bold and pastel combinations.

Expect to see pops of Via Magenta - 2023 Color of the Year EVERYWHERE.

Studio Style in 2023: I’m sure you have heard the term “athleisure” which is simply clothing designed for comfort, functionality, and style. This year, the trend may look more formal, companies will be using ultra luxe fabrics, trendy colors, and structure to take you from the studio to the street.

Other trends to watch: a rise in sustainable materials and wide-leg bottoms, such as flares, split hem, and boot cut styles (insert excited shriek here)!

For the OTF’er: Elevate the basics! Using color is the easiest way to join the trends. Pair two bold colors, a bold and pastel color, or as always, a good go-to is still a monochromatic set, all in buttery soft material. If black is your safe zone, try mixing textiles, like ribbed and eyelet or throwing a varsity jacket on top! 🙂

Final note, don’t be afraid to colorfully express yourself in 2023 - even under those orange lights!

For my next review…the Compressive High Rise Leggings from Girlfriend Collective

First of all, hats off to this company for being ethical and sustainable. All leggings and bras are made from recycled materials (big trend for 2023) and certified by Oeko-Tex, which is the world’s leader in testing and assessing fabrics for harmful substances. Beyond that, each piece of athletic wear carries the Standard 100 label which simply means they are safe for you.

Fun Fact: The Compressive Leggings are made from 25 recycled post-consumer water bottles.

A few other things to love: Inclusive sizing - GC offers the widest range of sizes, starting at XXS - 6XL (for context, accommodating waist measurements of 22.5 - 52 inches and hip measurements of 32 - 62.5 inches). The three inseam lengths also make it easy to find the best fit for your height (19.5, 23 3/4, 28.5 inches). Fits true to size and comes in six standard colors and trendy styles (rib, flare, stirrup).

The Compressive High Rise leggings arrived at my door packaged in a small, brown recyclable envelope, and my first impression, I have to say, was a bit underwhelming. The material seemed stiff, heavy, and what was with all the seams?

However, once these leggings were on, my thoughts instantly changed. The stiff, compressive fabric seemed to mold to my body in the best possible way, and provided compression without restriction (definitely a hold-you-in type of legging). The stitching only seemed to visually, create a slimming effect. I was pumped to test them out!

In-class, I had mixed feelings…

On the weight floor, the leggings offered good support, full coverage, and definitely squat-proof. In testing higher impact movements, I was surprised to see a bit of sliding which required a few tugs to reset. Due to the thickness of the fabric, sweat may be noticeable on the lighter colors. I would have loved a bit more breathability and flexibility.

As for cardio: any compressive fabric ultimately helps pump more blood to the heart, cuts down on muscle vibration, and improves efficiency. So a big win here!
There is also a small hidden pocket in the back for the important key stash. I do believe with this legging, chaffing could be a real possibility for runners (those looking for mileage) as the inseam is a bit on the shorter side and the stitching is thick. For reference, I chose the 23 3/4 inseam (similar to a 7/8 length).

Overall, a durable, compressive legging with performance benefits to any OTF’er inside the studio, and at a price point of $78, it’s hard to not want to support this company.
