It's the final week of the regular season!
There's a lot on the line with playoff spots and district titles still to be decided. Here's how the expert panel sees this week playing out.
I ran out of time to post my full predictions on the TRN website but here are a few of my final score prognostications for the bigger games of the night.
Memorial 47, Legacy 26 – The second meeting between these fledgling programs should be more competitive than the first. Legacy is much improved, and if its offensive line can hold up in protection, quarterback Knox Hodges can utilize his talented receivers to put points on the board.
But Memorial remains the deeper team with more experienced players. The Mavs hold an advantage in most areas of the field and will exploit it. There’s a big night coming for running back duo Eric Powell and Gage Wuthrich.
This outcome puts Memorial into the postseason as the No. 4 seed, meaning a long trip to El Paso for the bi-district playoffs is on the horizon.
Graham 31, Eagle Mountain 21 – Graham’s defense is rounding into a similar form it had a year ago. I’m not saying the Steers are as dominant as they were in 2024, but that unit is playing at a high level at the right time. Graham secures the No. 2 playoff seed with this win.
Mineral Wells 41, Burkburnett 36 – This game is for the final playoff spot available in the district. Burkburnett’s offense has been playing well, and quarterback Brody Boyd is coming off his best varsity performance with a four-TD effort against Bridgeport. Mineral Wells got healthy at the right time of year, evidenced by them playing Eagle Mountain within 35-30 last week. That gives the Rams the edge.
Peaster 20, Vernon 14 – I expect a tough hard-nosed low-scoring matchup between two teams capable of winning Region I-3A Division I and playing in the state semifinals. Both had narrow losses to Paradise – a game the Lions and Greyhounds feel like they should have won.
I may have too much knowledge about Vernon, and its injury report. While I know they are returning some key players for this game, I question their effectiveness at less than 100 percent and side slightly with Peaster.
Jacksboro 34, Holliday 23 – Holliday’s loss to Henrietta last week changed the outlook for what had been a highly-anticipated matchup. The Tigers have locked up the No. 1 playoff seed and have clearly been the best team in the district. The offense behind quarterback Wyatt Gavit is impressive, and the defense is stout with a relentless pass rush.
Windthorst 45, Petrolia 31 – It seems to be forgotten that Petrolia gave Windthorst all it could handle a year ago. This will not be as easy for Windthorst as many believe. Petrolia can make this difficult for the Trojans, but it’s hard to pick against the area's premier 2A program.
A couple games were played last night and we all missed the Chillicothe-Crowell matchup. Crowell won 60-27.
Waco Valor defeated Wichita Christian, 62-0.
