I was having a chat with Aimee ( ) as we did the slowest 5k in history yesterday in Toronto - we talked about how powerful community can be. We are inherently social creatures and we evolved to be the way we are by looking out for one another. We also evolved by our ability to tell stories, to learn from each other, and to come together to reach common goals. Our best buddy has battled and so courageously overcome breast cancer and it brought together hundreds of people in person and likely thousands online, to raise funds to conquer/better understand this awful disease. Our experience at the CIBC Run for the Cure yesterday totally reinforced the idea that we have power in numbers and when we join forces, we can have BIG impact. There were thousands of others there with their own cancer story, and their own immediate circle of people.
But, two things can exist at the same time. Social media can be a tool for change and for good and for connectivity, while it can also be a place for isolation and comparison and negativity. Nuance. But only you can decide. Be kind and be gentle and know that we are all just figuring s**t out as we float around on this rock. 🌍
