Current members of the Aurora are looking through literary journals and sharing pieces that speak to us.

Hi! My name is Aliyah Orten and I’m currently reading through The Florida Review where I have found various pieces of work that have spoken to me. One being “The Murder Hornet” by Margot Doualihy. Through my eyes, this submission has use of symbolism through a hornet and is being mirrored between someone who’s told they feel and love “too much,” with another person who expresses they feel they do not receive enough love.

“You feel too much, she said. You want too much.”
“I need to be devoured by love. Devastated, I added, swallowed whole.”

Give this poem a read and let us know what you think!

...is any torture more elegant / than chasing what you’ll never catch?

Dear Aurorians: six years ago our faculty adviser, Josh MacIvor-Andersen, curated a book dedicated to tree-related nonfiction, from flash essays to longform journalism and everything in between. Rooted was a blast to publish and promote, which is why Josh is thrilled that Outpost19 will publish a follow-up volume, Rooted Two, the Best New Arboreal Nonfiction.

Team Aurora would be eternally grateful if any writerly friends would consider both submitting and spreading the word. The anthology is seeking fresh, original work, and also pieces published since 2017 that might not have had the platform of, say, The Hidden Life of Trees.

Help us spread the word!
