🚨 URGENT MEXICO TRAVEL UPDATE — Feb 23, 2026
If you are currently in Mexico or have upcoming travel, the situation has changed significantly.
Following a major military operation, the U.S. Embassy has issued a rare, multi-state security alert.
What you need to know:
Shelter in Place: This order now covers major tourist zones on BOTH coasts, including Puerto Vallarta AND the Cancún/Riviera Maya region.
Transport Chaos: In Puerto Vallarta, all taxi/rideshare services are suspended, and many flights in/out of the region are being canceled due to roadblocks.
Resort Areas: While resort security is typically high, the current embassy directive is to remain in your hotel or residence and avoid all unnecessary movement.
Steps to take right now:
✔️ Stay Put: If your area is under a shelter-in-place order, do not leave your resort property.
✔️ Check Flights: Contact your airline directly before heading to any airport in the affected states.
✔️ Register for STEP: Enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (step.state.gov) for real-time text alerts.
This situation is evolving by the hour.
