I find it unbelievable that in this day and age people will make comments about a woman sleeping her way to the top and not realize that their daughter, mother, significant other or even a random woman is hearing it. Then, they wonder why young women have "daddy issues", but then do their best to exploit the problem they caused. You are teaching the women in your life that they cannot be successful, and if they become successful you will not only think that about them, but then you will sexualize them for it...

~Silent No More~

I cannot stay silent with so much at stake
Watching destruction leave democracy in its wake
So many have fought to get recognized rights
That should’ve been universal, without all those fights

The right for a woman to vote or own land
Have her own credit without a man’s hand
Or a person of color to sit on a bus
Be seated at a restaurant like any of us

The right for a person to wed who they choose
Hold hands on the street and their life they don’t lose
The freedom to worship their own God by name
Perhaps worship no one, and be treated the same

We all should be free to live without fear
Not worry if bullies are gathering near
Ready to pounce because they feel attacked
By someone existing, it seems so abstract

Your rights are not lessened by acknowledging others
In the grand scheme of things, we’re sisters and brothers
There’s no need for hatred, but you have that right
It’s yourself that you poison, you cause your own plight

Finally someone is looking into it. I've had cats most of my life and watch them reason things out, go through anxiety, show love and even help out. Many years ago, I got welder's flash. It hurt to open my eyes. I woke up in the middle of the night and had to use the bathroom. I had 3 cats at the time and they all started meowing. It took me a few minutes to realize they were placing themselves on obstacles I would have to get passed to get to the bathroom. As I would pass one obstacle, that cat would move to another on my path to guide me. They got me there, then did it again to get me back to bed. They knew I needed help, and new what was wrong with me. If that's not consciousness, intelligence and a sign of love, there is a disconnect somewhere.

A series of experiments have led a number of scientists to say animals may be conscious.

This weekend is a time to remember the men and women who gave their lives for our country, the ones who never made it home. Those who sacrificed all so we could be free. They gave their lives to protect us from being placed under one solitary person's thumb. We already have the strongest leader a country could hope for, "We The People". Our elected officials are merely there to represent us, "We The People" are the true power and leaders.

~The American Scream~

The American dream, a wonderous prize
Has become just a dream in front of our eyes
A house and a yard, with room for 2 car
A yearly vacation to travel afar

College or trade school to give kids a chance
To also have cash jingling in their pants
A trip to the movies and theme parks galore
Pay all the bills, with money to store

Then corporations decided to merge
Prices in turn started to surge
They gave a good lie that once they were few
They would make the world better with technologies new

The jobs would pay better without competition
And onward they climbed on their newly found mission

Yet the wages went down and the prices climbed higher
The money they paid to the top was on fire
They cut out the pensions the people worked for
Forced peoples’ hands to use credit more

Now the new dream that most of us seek
Is to survive on mere pittance from week to week
We long for the time we’ll be free from debt
Knowing the odds are hedged ‘gainst that bet

To follow up on last night's music post, (a nearly 60 yo dude who loves modern music) here's another great new song, posted by the artist 10 hours ago. :) I worked in radio for years and the nightclub scene for years. I had the luxury of being exposed to a lot of new artists through record pools, got to see some of them take off and others not get the love they deserved. A few that come to mind in the deserving of more love category are Radford JPARIS Wedgee and Cardinal Trait. Things have changed a bit over the years. Artists can gain a following through the web now and reach a more robust audience quicker.

~Comparisons~

I’d pen a verse if I thought it could be
The way for someone to really love me
But love’s not that easy, for that I am glad
For if it were simple, it would be just a fad

If penning a verse could end all world pain
I’d jot down the words, let it flow down the drain
Yet, how would we know how happiness feels
Until we compare it to what sadness reveals

Unless we see hate, though unpleasant to say
Compassion might seem a slight shade of gray
The words cannot solve all complications
But may pave the way for future sensations
