Folks, today is definitely a day to stay weather aware. There is the potential for at least two rounds of strong to severe storms - one early/mid afternoon, and the second in the late afternoon and evening hours. Damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes, and localized flash flooding are all possible.

Do you have *multiple* ways to get warnings? We're talking TV, radio, NOAA Weather Radio, a reliable phone app with *push alerts* turned on - have at least two warning methods.

From the McDowell County Sheriffs Office:

The McDowell County Sheirffs Office is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying subjects who are suspects regarding a stolen motorcycle.

This incident occurred on 7/8/23 in the Coalwood area of McDowell County , West Virginia

The suspects would have left the Coalwood area and traveled on State Rt 16 and onto U.S Rt 52 in Welch , West Virginia. The suspects then traveled from Welch to the Little General in Iaeger, West Virginia and later up Johnny Cake Mtn towards Wyoming County, West Virginia.

Attached are pictures of a Jeep Tracker which was involved in the theft, A male Suspect who we are currently unable to identify, and also a picture of the stolen motorcycle.

CHECKPOINT: The Kimball Police Department will be holding a check point on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023 from 5 pm until 1 am. The alternate routes to avoid this check point will be State Rt 161 and State Route 103.

SHERIFF'S OFFICE ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC CHECKPOINTS

MCDOWELL COUNTY, W. VA. - The McDowell County Sheriff's Office announced two traffic checkpoints will be held on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 in Welch and Northfork.

In Welch, the Checkpoint will be held at the Coney Island Intersection of Rt. 103 and Rt. 52 from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. The alternate route is Anawalt Ridge Road.

In Northfork, the Checkpoint will be held at the intersection of Rt. 52 and Cherokee Road from 6 p.m. until 12 a.m. Alternate routes are Anawalt Ridge Road, Mount View High School Road or Talman Village Road.

Joint County Seat Belt Checkpoint Announced

On Monday, May 22nd, 2023, the McDowell and Mercer County Sheriff's Departments will hold a joint Seat Belt Checkpoint along U.S. Route 52 at the county line from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The alternate routes are McDowell CR 17, Mercer CR 13, and WV 71.
