And the Ellis County Small School Game of the Week did not disappoint! …until it did.
Mart pulled out a 36-34 home victory to snatch the non-district win. Jimmy caught up with senior Tyson Brooks after the game.

A shortage of officials. It’s the pandemic that no one really wants to address across high school athletics — until today.
Ennis ISD Athletics reset the expectation in a press release this morning. The Lions will play games with no fans before they allow fans to ruin it for the kids.
The announcement comes after Ennis ISD received its first strike from TASO for spectators vocally attacking officials and questioning their calls. Italy ISD Athletics quickly followed suit in order to get ahead of the issue.

The 6A DII defending state champion Eagles capitalized on two fumbles. Waxahachie offense has rolled to 225yds.
Waxahachie senior QB Ramon McKinney Jr. found tight end Rhett Butler for this 7-yard TD to take a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter. McKinney Jr. rushes for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns in the opening half.

Congrats to Ferris sophomore wide receiver Quidarwin Cotton on the Pearman Oil & LP Gas Inc Play of the Week in Ellis County!
Cotton took a quick out from the inside slot, broke 3 tackles and outran the Sanger defense for a 74-yard touchdown in week two of the high school football season.
Cotton led all wide receivers with 12 catches for 173 yards and the highlight score. Ferris' sophomore quarterback Joshua Greek completed 27-of-his-45 passes for 382 yards and 2 touchdowns with no interceptions.
Ferris ultimately lost the game in overtime, 33-27.
Cotton (5-4, 150) has 271 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 catches over his first two varsity games. He is averaging 18.1 yards per catch.

PLAY OF THE WEEK! Waxahachie defensive back Elijah Thompson’s game-saving, fourth-quarter interception of Ennis quarterback Wondame Davis Jr. has been selected as the Pearman Oil & LP Gas Inc Play of the Week!
Thompson (2025, 5-11, 170) picked off Davis Jr. at the Indian 12-yard line to secure the 22-16 win in the 102nd Battle of 287. It was his first interception of the season and paired nicely with two pass breakups and two total tackles.
