Bomber Who Targeted Banks, Store, and a Supermarket Sentenced to Five Years in Federal Prison 💣
Cahlyl Rollins, 25, of Washington, D.C., was sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a series of four bombings that damaged businesses in Maryland and the District of Columbia, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced. The explosions caused tens of thousands of dollars in property damage.
Rollins and co-defendant W. Garrett Bragg, 36, pleaded guilty on September 25, 2024, to four counts involving the malicious use of explosive materials. U.S. District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan also ordered Rollins to serve three years of supervised release. Bragg was sentenced earlier this year to seven years in prison.
According to court records, Rollins personally carried and detonated the explosive devices as the pair targeted ATMs and storefronts during the early morning hours of July 2, 2023. Investigators determined the two traveled between locations in a metallic Acura sedan using unregistered Maryland license plates.
The bombings began at a Bank of America ATM in District Heights, Maryland, and continued at a Truist Bank, a Nike store, and a Safeway supermarket in Northeast Washington DC. Several locations were damaged while employees were inside, and losses totaled more than $50,000.
Searches tied to Rollins later uncovered a firearm, burglary tools, dozens of license plates, large quantities of ammunition, and equipment used to conceal or clone vehicle identification items.
