🖤From Athlete to Mom 🖤
Competing at Regionals ➡️ the Open at 6 months pregnant with Ainsley ➡️ the Open at 6 months pregnant with Austin ➡️ the Open at 3 months postpartum with Hunter.
And two other CrossFit opens while nursing a baby around 9 months old and up multiple times per night.
Needless to say, out of 13 Open events, 5 of them have been either pregnant or postpartum/nursing/not sleeping yet. Was I “in shape” NOPE. Many may wonder why I signed up. But if you’re part of the CrossFit community you’ll know it’s all about the community, showing people that CrossFit is for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re new, old, young, seasoned…we can all scale to our own individual levels.
This year, scaling meant — lots of rest breaks (I have no motor after taking off so much time from high intensity workouts) and guess what? I still did it. And it was fun —- our community is amazing 🙌🏼
Will I “compete” again one day? Probably.
But until then, I’m too sleep deprived, exhausted, and barely have time to workout myself because I have three tiny people taking every ounce of energy I have. So, over the years I’ve pulled back to give myself Grace.
I still workout, but it’s less. I lift heavy instead of trying to leave myself crawling on the floor after a workout, or, if I am lucky enough for a full hour of class then I just scale so I can easily walk away and function the rest of the day. One day, the kids needs won't be as demanding.
Hopefully this can serve as a reminder to other moms in the same season that I'm in ♥️
