"In this election, we came together to reject the politics of fear and division and lies, the old, tired political playbook of dividing people up and pitting them against each other, the politics of tearing people down. We rejected that, and we sent a message: that's not how we do things here."

Voters went to the polls today, including in Chemung County. Sarah van den Blink is a Democrat and a longtime Elmira resident and business owner. She voted for Kamala Harris and “yes” on New York’s Proposal 1. She said she thinks Trump is really dangerous.

“And I think he's become more unhinged. And the people around him are scary to me. What they want to do, what they say,” van den Blink said. “My father was an immigrant from the Netherlands in the 1950s. This is a country of immigrants and I find it really upsetting all the bigotry and hatred, so he's got to be stopped."

Voting is underway, including in Tompkins County. Karl Selke, 95, cast his vote in Ithaca this afternoon. He said he almost always votes in elections. But he couldn’t last year because he was sick. He said he was glad he could make it to the polls this year.

"If you're a citizen, you should vote," Selke said. "And you can also complain about things. If you don't, it doesn't make no sense."

Zelke got a ride to the polls from the retirement home where he lives.
