This month, we're honoring four incredible women who started their journeys far from here — and built bold, beautiful lives right here on the Suncoast. Their stories are powerful, inspiring, and uniquely FIERCE 💪💖

🌟 Ama Coltan — After seven tries (and forgetting to check her email 😅), Ama finally received her green card and left Romania behind with her husband to chase a dream in America. Once a pharmacist, now a courageous dreamer on a brand-new path.

📸 Heidemarie Burke — Almost 80 and still on the move! This spirited Englewood photographer grew up in postwar Germany and hasn’t stopped capturing life’s moments since. Her motto? “I have no time to get old.”

🌸 Mehtap Barut — Kind-hearted and calm, Mehtap came to the U.S. from Turkey nearly 30 years ago. She’s been quietly inspiring others ever since—now living in Venice with her husband and two sons, continuing to live with grace and warmth.

🌞 Liana Lazaridis — At just 5 years old, she moved from Greece to America with her family in 1975. Not knowing a word of English, they relied on each other — and Liana grew into the strong, community-minded woman she is today.

As a single mom in need of a steady income, Theresa turned to the classifieds in search of opportunity. When a job at an electrical company caught her eye, some told her she wouldn’t make it in the trades. But she proved them wrong — and then some. 🔌

Theresa became the only woman hired in a local facility maintenance department, breaking barriers with hard work and grit. And last year, she took her impact even further by restarting the electrical program at Charlotte Technical College, helping train the next generation of electricians. 🔧📚

Rachel built CountyLine Signs from the ground up with nothing but her experience, a small garage, and a whole lot of grit. While fostering children and pregnant with her son, she was out in the driveway wrapping box trucks at eight months pregnant — proving that nothing could stand in her way.

Today, she’s a one-woman powerhouse running Englewood’s first vehicle and fleet wrap shop, holding the CCSO Police Vehicles contract, and giving back to her community every step of the way.

🔧 Meet our second FIERCE nominee for this month’s Women in a Trade — Kathleen Callahan! 💪✨

From not knowing a thing about auto repair to testifying before Congress to protect independently owned shops like hers, Kathleen’s journey is all about resilience and reinvention. 🇺🇸🛠️

Her career kicked off in 2003 when she and her then-husband, an ASE Certified Master Technician, purchased Xpertech Auto Repair in Englewood. Kathleen took the lead on finances while supporting his dream. But when life shifted, she made a bold move — buying out the business so she could balance entrepreneurship with motherhood on her own terms.

Now, she’s not only running a successful shop — she’s also advocating nationally for small business owners like her. 👏
