MORNING THOUGHTS FROM THE M.S.: "A single word ill-conceived, misread, or ill-received can create a mighty disturbance in us. It can potentially cause moments of anger, days of frustration, and even the tiniest hint of joy to evaporate. Perhaps this is why we cannot grow beyond our present situation. Could this be why are we still looking for wars to fight? Any opportunity to give life meaning? Why do we still look for a church, mosque, temple, or synagogue to bring our life to the threshing floor of salvation? Somehow we think that if we simply pray long enough or get lucky enough to win some sort of spiritual lottery that our lives will become richer with meaning. Yet, it is all false! For once we lose our joy, we lose the vitality of hope that keeps life moving forward. We also lose the courage to be ourselves. To live life qualitatively versus quantitatively. And when life becomes a known quantity, its quality is lost. And so too our ability to dream. So today, I pray that we all still have a dream." BROTHER TIAJA

A good news shortage, which is becoming an increasingly larger part of the entertainment culture we live in. Too often, social media becomes a wall on which people write and share the graffiti from their souls. It is a place where far too many are emboldened to speak coldly, even ruthlessly, through their veil of anonymity. While others are considered less humane because their transparency offends. Social media has created an entire generation that is wired for noise yet unplugged for sound. So much so that many adore the very technologies that trespass on their capacity to think and care. The root of our inhumanity and indifference didn't begin with social media, television, nor our present entertainment culture. It began long before that. MORNING THOUGHTS FROM THE M.S.: "In every corner of the world, there stands a cathedral. On either side, there is a seaside mansion and a palatial estate. All three represent the best the world can offer. The cathedral is the best religion can offer. The seaside mansion is the best society can offer. The palatial estate is the best class can offer. Yet, five steps to the north, there is a ladder, like a small staircase. Stars cover each step like a carpeted stairwell. The ladder leads to a palace which is the size of a miniature city. Inside the palace are angels kneeling over a gold-plated table littered with precious stones. Each stone has a name. One stone has my name. Another, your name. And so on and so on. Within each stone are a cathedral, seaside mansion, and palatial estate. Thus, the best the world can offer is already within us.
