Cottonwood Fire - then and now
The first week of March, 2022, there were the wildfires that destroyed a lot of homes in the Cottonwood area. Here are some clips from then and now. You can still see how most of the trees are still dead and the golf course is unrecognizable.
I asked Scarlett if she'd be the model for the auto tracking camera to focus on while I tested a new splitter for signal strength. Took about 10 seconds go to off the rails. lol
When your brother invites you over for grilled dogs and burgers and hang with family, you sort of change your plans. Here is some footage from Hutch's show.
If you want to see an amazing fireworks show, you should go to Lyons to watch Lyons July 4th BoomFest. 25-30 minutes from start to finish. Pyrotechnics with huge fireworks and music playing to fit the tone. If you or your kids love to watch great fireworks shows, this one will not disappoint.
Consider liking and following their page to stay updated. I'm not a sponsor, nor am I being paid. I voluntarily shot it for them only once, but they give shout outs and thanks and truly knows how to plug sponsors and donors. Great group of people adds to that value tremendously.
Every senior pics gets this level of editing.
Every senior session gets this level of attention for every photo delivered. If it's a mark you have for life, I intend to not touch it unless you ask me to, but acne should not be something you're stuck with in photos when you won't be stuck with it for life. Don't let your temperamental body dictate your confidence and your image. Hit me up for senior pics. My website has a calendar and on there are my dates available so just let me know when works. Hint: nearly every date is now! I don't mind if you have to reschedule even if last minute. If you're stressed about having to be there, it'll show.
I remember going to watch the Big 8 tournament at Prairie Dunes Country Club with my dad in the 90s. Hole 15, in particular, really stood out. It was somewhat surreal to get to fly around and capture some of those scenes after all these years. That's why I included it in this video a few times, and I also did a full-length flyover of hole 8. I hear that's the toughest hole, and as you can see, the rolling hills definitely would make that tough. I came within inches of it a few times while flying at 40 mph. That'll make you clinch a little, but I had to get the shot. I could have spent multiple days and many hours capturing more of this course, but I tried to be mindful of the golfers and capture holes they weren't at. I hope I did a decent job with that. Thank you, Prairie Dunes!
How about a low-level quick fly around HCC? This was a couple of months ago. Front lawn, garden and then end at Gowans.
My last Woodie Seat post for a while, I promise. I flew over it 52 days ago for a different reason, so I thought I'd combine those two videos to show the progress more fairly. They were shot at different speeds and different intentions, so I changed the speeds here to have them start and end at the same time to help paint an accurate picture.
The last 13 seconds are stills from 3 days ago and today.
30th and Monroe timelapse
"Everything is on its way to somewhere." I love that quote from the movie, "Phenomenon."
Here is how people are going their own directions between 7:38 AM and 8 AM this morning at Monroe and 30th. It's at 10x, so around 1 minute, 10 seconds, you'll see it really pick up with traffic. Watching things from this perspective puts life in perspective.
Lots of comments on the Woodie Seat progress, so I shot it again this evening to show the changes in the last few days. I flew lower and faster, so this is in real time.
Here is the South Main entrance into Hutchinson as of this evening. For every second, 20 seconds of real time will have passed.
Traffic in and out of Carey slows it all down the most. Wonder if that could be a closed entrance or controlled with a light during this time and give cars coming into Hutch the right away. Leaving Hutch would be unaffected and there are a few ways to get into Carey Park as is.
Here is a fairly quick down and back of the progress of Woodie Seat as of yesterday afternoon.
Per request, here is the current state of the Severance construction.
I originally went downtown for the sunset, but it was a nice treat seeing the storm out northwest. Here is a small clip that shows it.
HCC really has one of the best campuses. This video mostly focuses on the landscaping from higher up and then go down for a closer look. I don't normally do a single flight type of video, but this one just works.
I recently got a chance to fly inside Memorial Hall. A little rushed due to staffing, but I was able to get some good footage. I trimmed it down to a minute here.
22 clips make up this video and multiple locations didn't make the cut. All around Hutchinson and all shot within 5 weeks this spring. I wanted to do more, but the wind has been horrific this spring. Yes, I can fly in high winds, but it's not about my ability, it's about how the footage looks. Blowing trees just don't look appealing for a location shoot. Getting cooperative wind and a pleasing sky in the morning and evening is very hit and miss. That's why you'll see some overcast in some of these clips, which I would never plan for.
Over 60 minutes of footage was captured, only 4 minutes were used. That's the hardest part for sure!
Who is ready for Friday Night Lights? There is something oddly pleasing about watching football in reverse.
I'm working on a much more labor-intensive video, but it's been a while since I posted so here you go.
Note: you need the sound to really appreciate the ballet.
I promise, my last race post for now. I had to reupload because the upload cut out the last 2 minutes. This one is all video, same race, views from different angles. In fact, it's all a single 5 minute video that will be sped up to get between the shots.
Also, if you'd like to purchase any of the photos I've posted plus a few others, you can find them here. https://photos.nickhemphill.com/zg/hutch-nationals-2023
$10 each, and you can get them printed anywhere, anyhow you want. Even on a mug or mousepad or whatever else your printer allows.
