Five people, including Matthew Perry’s assistant and two doctors, have been charged in connection with the actor’s death from a ketamine overdose last year.

U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada announced the charges, stating that the doctors supplied Perry with large amounts of ketamine, even discussing via text how much he might be willing to pay.

Estrada said, “These defendants took advantage of Mr. Perry’s addiction issues to enrich themselves.”

Perry, who died in October, received several injections of the drug on the day of his death from his live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, who later found him dead.

The actor turned to the charged doctors after his regular physicians refused to prescribe ketamine in the large amounts he sought.

DEA Administrator Anne Milgram revealed that Perry once paid $2,000 for a vial of ketamine that cost the physician about $12.

Paul Dans, the director of the Heritage Foundation-led Project 2025, is stepping down from his position, according to an announcement made on Tuesday by Kevin Roberts, the president of the conservative think tank.

Dans previously served as the chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management during the Trump administration. His departure coincides with Democrats using Project 2025 as a focal point in their campaign criticisms against Republicans and former President Trump.

The project, a coalition of conservative groups and Trump allies, features a 900-page policy blueprint aimed at directing the next conservative administration and includes a roster of potential staff members. Despite this, Trump and his campaign have distanced themselves from Project 2025, as its positions are considered more extreme than some of Trump’s own views.

➡️SWIPE: The iconic Sacré-Cœur Basilica shone brightly against the night sky as Paris experienced a widespread blackout following the Olympic opening ceremony.

On Saturday night, parts of Paris were plunged into darkness, with some areas enduring outages that lasted up to an hour. Though the entire city wasn’t confirmed to be affected, the illuminated Sacré-Cœur stood out vividly against the darkened cityscape.

Some observers are interpreting the blackout as a potential “divine judgment” in response to the contentious opening ceremony, which critics considered sacrilegious.

The lavish opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics has sparked outrage among populist and religious conservatives in the U.S. and beyond, particularly due to a segment that seemingly portrayed the Last Supper with drag performers.

The ceremony’s fashion show featured a scene resembling a contemporary version of Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic painting, with French actor and singer Philippe Katerine portraying the Greek god Dionysus, painted blue and wearing only a few flowers for coverage.

The Last Supper refers to the final meal Jesus Christ had with his 12 apostles before his crucifixion and is a well-known theme in Christian art, most famously illustrated by Leonardo da Vinci, who depicted the apostles’ reaction to Jesus’ revelation of his betrayal.

Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the opening ceremony, defended the production in response to the criticism at a Saturday news conference. Jolly expressed that he was unaware of the backlash and emphasized his intention to showcase “inclusion.”

The NCAA Board of Governors approved the new guidelines for transgender athletes to participate in a sport-by-sport basis. The policy for the sport's national governing body will determine the sport-by-sport basis for transgender participation.

When there is no national governing body, that sport’s international federation policy would be utilized. If there is no international federation policy, previously established IOC policy criteria will step in.

The new guidelines will be put into effect immediately, beginning with the 2022 winter championships.

"Approximately 80% of U.S Olympians are either current or former college athletes,” said NCAA President Mark Emmert in a release. "This policy alignment provides consistency and further strengthens the relationship between college sports and the U.S. Olympics.”

This year, Penn Swimmer, Lia Thomas, was successful in new record placements, which initiated the NCAA rules on transgender athletes to return as a top priority. In the first three years, Thomas competed on the men's team, but after transitioning will now compete for the women's team this season.

"We are steadfast in our support of transgender student-athletes and the fostering of fairness across college sports,." said Georgetown President John Degioia in a release.

"It is important that NCAA member schools, conferences and college athletes compete in an inclusive, fair, safe and respectful environment and can move forward with a clear understanding of the new policy.".

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits reached the highest level it has been in three months. In one week, jobless claims rose from 55,000 to 286,000, the highest since mid-October.

Analysts with Contingent Macro Advisors estimated that “we could see one more week of notably higher claims before they should top out,” the jump in claims this recent week marked the largest one-week increase since mid-July.

The Federal Reserve might consider a plan to ease its massive support for the economy if the claims stay above 250,000. Jobless claims had become steady for about a year and fell below the pre-pandemic average of around 220,000 a week.

When COVID originally hit the U.S., the government ordered a lockdown which made consumers stay at home and many businesses closed down. During this time, unemployment rose to 14.7% and around 200,000 businesses closed down permanently, while the recent surge has regressed the progress from last year's COVID recession.

This past year, employers hired over 6.4 million people. However, this was still not enough to recover from the 9.4 million jobs lost in 2020.

Companies are now hanging on to the workers they have employed at a time where it is difficult to find replacements. There were 10.6 million job openings in November, making it the fifth highest total in records since 2000. 4.5 million of the job openings were due to workers quitting their jobs in November.

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who resigned from his position in office last year, still possesses more than $16 million in campaign cash, according to a Board of Elections filing released.

Cuomo remains one of the highest-funded political figures in New York. Although he is not fundraising as a candidate, he still has kept up with communicating with supporters, paying advisors, and taking in donations which appear to come from outside of New York.

Although Cuomo raised more than enough money for his campaign, it was surpassed by his successor, Gov. Kathy Hochul whose team raised $21.6 million in five months. Cuomo's stockpile in cash has been minimized as he made significant purchases for lawyers regarding the legal difficulties he has faced in the past year.

Cuomo’s lawyer, Rita Glavin, came out with her statement on this case. “The actions that the former governor got reported for are petty slights and trivial inconveniences.”

Cuomo has continued to stay in touch with a few associates and allies, as it is reported that he has been guiding them through the political scene. Many Democrats are infuriated by this and hope that he stays on the sidelines. One Democrat reports that Cuomo has been restarting his political outreach in New York within this past month.

Cuomo’s lawyer, Rita Glavin, held a news conference in which she was asked about Cuomo’s political future. She replied that he will take “whatever legal options he has available to him.” Another source, who spoke to Cuomo this past week, said he gave the impression that he was looking to absolve his past.

Cuomo has made it clear however that those who asked him to resign had made a mistake.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is in support of a bill that would prohibit public schools or private businesses from making white people feel “ any other form of psychological distress” when undergoing training with employees or teaching students about race in America.

The bill titled “Individual Freedom” received its first approval on Tuesday by the Senate Education Committee, with Republicans in favor and Democrats opposed.

According to APNews, Democrats argued that the bill is unnecessary due to the amount of lawsuits and school censorship it could possibly bring.

“This bill’s not for Blacks, this bill was not for any other race. This was directed to make whites not feel bad about what happened years ago,” said Sen. Shervin Jones in response to the bill. “At no point did anyone say white people should be held responsible for what happened, but what I would ask my white counterparts is, are you an enabler of what happened or are you going to say we must talk about history?”

According to the bill, “An individual, by virtue of his or her race or s*x, does not bear responsibility for actions committed in the past by other members of the same race or s*x. An individual should not be made to feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race.”

The bill’s sponsor, Republican Sen. Manny Diaz, argued that the intention is not looking past the “dark” moments of American history, but making it so people are not being pointed at for their historical past.

“No individual is inherently racist, s*xist or oppressive, whether consciously or unconsciously, solely by the virtue of his or her race or s*x,” Diaz said. “No race is inherently superior to another race.”

Three Sharon Hill Police officers were charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment for firing their weapons into a crowd exiting a high school football game outside of Philadelphia, injuring three people and killing 8-year-old Fanta Bility.

An investigation revealed Angelo “AJ” Ford, 16, got into an argument with Hasein Strand, 19, on Aug. 27 exchanging gunfire outside of a high school football game in Sharon Hill, a small borough just north of the Philadelphia International Airport. Two gunshots were fired in the direction of the three officers monitoring the crowd as it left the game, according to authorities.

According to the charging documents, the officers Brian Devaney, Sean Dolan, and Devon Smith were recommended the charges by the grand jury regarding the death of Fanta Bility. Each officer was charged with one count of manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter, as well as ten counts of reckless endangerment.

“This is a sad day for our officers, who face criminal charges for trying to do their jobs and keeping the community safe,” wrote Delaware County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 27 President Joseph Fitzgerald in a supporting statement for the officers, “the FOP continues to support these fine officers and will provide a vigorous defense against these allegations.”

Additionaly, the murder charges previously filed against the two teenagers for firing the gunshots that prompted the altercation were dropped, according to a news release from the Delaware County District Attorney’s office.

“Relatedly, I am also announcing today that I have directed my office to withdraw murder charges against defendants A.J. Ford and Hasein Strand for their role in the killing of Fanta Bility,” said District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer.

“While I believe these defendants should be held accountable for starting the series of events that ultimately led to Fanta Bility’s death, developments during the grand jury investigation render it appropriate to withdraw these charges at this time.”

Attorney Bruce L. Castor, Jr., representing the Bility family, stated that they are “very pleased” regarding the decision to charge the three officers.

The Texas abortion clinics' request to continue their fight against the state's abortion ban was rejected by a federal appeals court leaving the Texas Heartbeat Act in place while it gets pushed to the state’s Supreme Court for a final decision.

"Here, there is a possibility that federal courts could declare S.B. 8 constitutionally infirm even though our conclusions might be based entirely on a faulty understanding of Texas law,” wrote Judge Edith Jones.

“To avert creating needless friction with a coequal sovereign in our federal system, this court reasonably seeks the Texas Supreme Court’s final word on the matter. This court reasonably seeks the Texas Supreme Court's final word on the matter.”

The Texas Heartbeat Act (S.B. 8), does not allow for abortions to take place after the six-weeks in the pregnancy cycle. The law was put in place to essentially provide private citizens the ability to enforce the ban to avoid careful examination within the judicial areas. With this in place, it will allow anyone conducting an abortion to be sued by any public member.

A report from researchers at The University of Texas at Austin states that the ban has already led to a significant decrease in abortions. According to their study, overall abortions conducted in Sept. 2021 decreased 48.9% compared to Sept. 2020.

The requested rejection allows for the ban to stay in full effect until the Texas Supreme Court declares a decision, which according to The Washington Post will be postponed for months.

Judge Stephen Higginson dissented the decision from his colleagues, describing the rejection as "second-guessing redundancy."

“This further, second-guessing redundancy, without time limit, deepens my concern that justice delayed is justice denied, here impeding relief ordered by the Supreme Court,” Higginson wrote.

Texas, however, is not the only state undergoing abortion law situations. The decision from the U.S. Supreme Court regarding a law in Mississippi that can ban most abortions after 15 weeks is expect to come this summer.

21/01/2022

Through the new book “The Betrayal of Anne Frank A Cold Case Investigation,” a cold case team, led by retired FBI agent Vincent Pankoke, reached “the most likely scenario” regarding the betrayal of Holocaust victim, Anne Frank, and her family.

At age 15, Anne and her sister perished in the Bergan-Belsen concentration camp, leaving her father, Otto Frank, the only survivor of the family.

After five years of digging, the team concluded that an important Jewish notary, Arnold Van Den Bergh, could have revealed the secret annex hiding place of the Frank family to the Germans in exhange to save his family from separation and murder within the concentration camps.

The team’s research findings of an anonymously typed brief note suggests that Otto Frank was the first to hear of the involvement connected to Van Den Bergh at the time.

While the team's evidence points to this scenario, filmmaker and creator of the cold case team, Thijs Bayens, told The Associated Press that “we don’t have 100% certainty.”

“We have investigated over 30 suspects in 20 different scenarios, leaving one scenario we like to refer to as the most likely scenario,”Bayens said.

“There is no smoking gun because betrayal is circumstantial.”

There is a current lawsuit surrounding the alleged improper drug use of ivermectin at northwest Arkansas jail. Four inmates are suing the jail and its providing doctor, Dr. Robert Karas, after they were allegedly unknowingly given ivermectin to treat COVID-19, claiming they did not give their consent.

The popular anti-parasitic drug has been used for treatment of parasitic worms, head lice, and many saying their physicians have prescribed the drug to them for COVID. It is not, however, FDA approved for treatment of COVID-19, as the four inmates suffered severe side effects from the drug such as vision loss, diarrhea and stomach cramps.

The inmates claim they were informed they had only been given vitamins and antibiotics to help alleviate their COVID symptoms. The prosecution supports this claim and reveals that “without knowing and voluntary consent, plaintiffs ingested incredibly high doses of a drug that credible medical professionals, the FDA, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, all agree is not an effective treatment against COVID-19, and that if given in large doses is dangerous for humans”.

The County Sheriff, Tim Helder, came out with a statement claiming that “whatever a doctor prescribes, that is not in my bailiwick”.

Dr. Karas responded to the lawsuit with a letter. In the letter, he reveals that the inmates have been given ivermectin since November 2020 and over 254 inmates at the jail have been administered this drug.

The jail paramedics who were in charge of actually administering the drugs to the inmates have not been given “required counseling details” about ivermectin. The process has been improved since 2020, according to Dr. Karas.

Chinese authorities are insisting citizens to take caution around international packages. They claim that parcels that are mailed from international countries may spread the Omicron variant throughout China, despite the doubts health experts have published about the virus not being able to be transmitted through surfaces.

China has ordered more intense measures to disinfect the areas where items mailed from overseas are managed and organized. With this, mail workers are required to receive their booster shots, wear protective equipment, and complete regular testing.

There is a strong need for COVID to be kept out of Beijing, as the Winter Olympics are being held there in a few weeks. On Monday, the organizing committee for the olympics came out with a statement regarding the recent spike of Omicron in Beijing stating, “Tickets will be distributed to targeted groups of people and not be sold to the general public.”

China has claimed that many of their recent cases have come from overseas packages, but health experts say this claim is weak. Dr. Ian Mackay, a virologist at the University of Queensland, said it was “a long bow to draw,” and urging people to disinfect packages and avoid receiving international mail was “a wasted effort.” He claims that the source of infection was from another asymptomatic individual, not a package.

COVID-19 primarily spreads through respiratory droplets, as experts from the World Health Organization states that “coronaviruses need a live animal or human host to multiply and survive and cannot multiply on the surface of food packages.”

❗New York City will now require all municipal workers, including teachers and police officers, to get either get vaccinated by September or face weekly COVID testing.

🏙️The new rule affects an estimated 340,000 city employees, making it one of the largest cities to take this kind of action.

😷The rule is not a vaccine mandate, however, the hope is that the inconvenience of weekly testing will push many to get vaccinated.

💬“This is about our recovery. This is about what we need to do to bring back New York City. This is about keeping our people safe,” said Mayor Bill de Blasio. -19

😷City workers in Montclair, California who choose to not wear masks will now be required to wear stickers in order to prove they are fully vaccinated.

❗Mayor Javier “John” Dutrey and the city manager have supported the new rule stating it follows CDC, Cal/OSHA and California Division of Occupational Safety and Health rules and recommendations.

🔴However, some members have pushed back. According to City Councilman Ben Lopez, the new rule "treads on some serious potential legal concerns and issues of privacy, that we as a council are going to be held liable for -- potentially held liable for -- irrespective of the policy.”

🔷The city council members are expected to bring up the mandate again in August at their next meeting. -19

🔴House Speaker Nancy Pelosi named Republican Adam Kinzinger, a known critic of Donald Trump, to a special committee investigating the Capitol riot.

🔵Back in May the House voted to create a separate investigation that would be evenly split between parties, but Republicans blocked the approach.

🔴Kinzinger accepted the appointment even as his party’s leadership is boycotting the investigation.

💬“Today, I was asked by the Speaker to serve on the House Select Committee to Investigate January 6th and I humbly accepted. I will work diligently to ensure we get to the truth and hold those responsible for the attack fully accountable,” said Kinzinger in a statement.

🔵Top administrator for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill, resigned following claims that he uses the q***r dating app Grindr.

💬“According to commercially available records of app signal data obtained by The Pillar, a mobile device correlated to Burrill emitted app data signals from the location-based hookup app Grindr on a near-daily basis during parts of 2018, 2019, and 2020 — at both his USCCB office and his USCCB-owned residence, as well as during USCCB meetings and events in other cities. Data app signals suggest he was at the same time engaged in serial and illicit s*xual activity,” the Pillar, a Catholic news site, said.

🔷Grindr denied that any data was publicly accessible, stating on Tuesday that “there is absolutely no evidence supporting the allegations of improper data collection or usage related to the Grindr app as purported.”
