Cannon Beach in Kodacolor
Intern Maria Nănău found this fascinating gem while researching material for the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum project: a home movie showing the area in the late 1920s, captured in a format called "Kodacolor". There’s a detailed explanation of how it works on wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodacolor_(filmmaking)), but in brief, the film is exposed “backwards” (meaning is facing the emulsion away from the lens), so that light goes through the translucent film base, which is covered in thousands of tiny prisms, separating the red, blue and green channels. Unfortunately, without the corresponding Kodacolor projector, the film appears as monochrome, but it’s still a fascinating artifact.
