"It's their day, especially those who suffered in those institutions and survived and then I also feel that it's for all the little ones who died in those institutions and didn't make it home... The day is about them as well. It's also a time to reflect. It's a time to learn about Canada's true history."

"I've always been a firm believer in support being earned not given. I believe in working for people's support instead of being entitled to it. But today I'm saying .

Over the past few days I've heard a lot about Black people needing to build our own tables and platforms, andto tell our own stories. That's why we started SHIFTER.

I've people saying 'Where's the Black media?' especially in Canada. There's a few, including us.

A lot of things in our culture aren't actually owned by Black people—Black beauty supply stores, nail salons and media. We're consumers of our culture, but not always owners.

We're passionate about telling Black/BIPOC/urban stories, as well as empowering and entertaining.

So we invite you to follow the movement. It's called SHIFTER. Black-owned and operated since 2013."

co-founder, SHIFTER
