WNCW is sad to announce the death of Garth Hudson, keyboardist and saxophonist with -- and the last surviving member of -- The Band.

Garth Hudson, the innovative multi-instrumental and last surviving member of the Band, has died. He was 87.

Live in Studio B today at 11am: Abby Bryant
This soulful singer represents WNCW’s North Carolina footprint well: she grew up in Gastonia, pursued music while at App State in Boone, spent a while living in Charlotte, and now lives in Asheville! Abby and her band made a big splash at our Holidaze For Habitat show back in 2021. They played in Studio B the following year, and we welcome them back in support of the new album Glowing, and Grey Eagle show on Saturday the 4th with Dr. Bacon.

It was another year of sad losses to our music community, with the deaths of luminaries like Dickey Betts, Phil Lesh, Kris Kristofferson, Quincy Jones, and Western North Carolina’s own Malcolm Holcombe and Bobby Hicks. Numerous less-known musicians as well, plus engineers, producers, managers, and radio programmers. Join us in remembrance of and celebration of their contributions, with Martin Anderson Wednesday morning.

Merry Christmas from WNCW. Malcolm Holcombe's widow Cyndi recently posted this video from a few years ago in Italy. Cyndi says that after the U.S., Italy was Malcolm's biggest audience.

A native of Western NC, Malcolm was one of the beloved members of the music community whom we lost in 2024; join us for a tribute to may of them on New Year's Day from 9am until Noon.
