Expecting entrepreneur mommas this one’s for you🤰
As an entrepreneur, I was incredibly worried about how I could get a semblance of a maternity leave (esp when social media never sleeps). The first time around with my son was a disaster 🥴 Talking on my laptop at 2 weeks postpartum. You don’t know what you don’t know…
This time around I did things differently and had to in order to protect my mental health. I want to share in case it’s helpful for anyone else preparing for a maternity leave. So here’s what worked well:
➡️ Plan EARLY: I started mapping out my maternity leave around 20 weeks. This was my downfall last time. I thought I’d work up until the end and then my son arrived 2.5 weeks before I was anticipating him to. My self-imposed deadline was having everything done by 36 weeks.
➡️ Use a project management tool to map out what will need to be done while you’re out: I used Asana and staggered deadlines to split up tasks into digestible chunks. I also used it to determine what tasks couldn’t be done early so I knew where I needed to train my team to keep me off the computer.
➡️ Train your team/contractors early: My godsend of a contractor started helping with tasks about 3 months out to start taking things off my list and then when the time came knew how to do them like a pro.
➡️ Choose your point of contact for things that come up: There are inevitably questions that will arise. It’s much better to have one person reaching out to you than 15.
➡️ Give yourself so much grace: Be okay with slowing down and enjoying time with your sweet baby.
And if you’re stressed or still have questions about preparing, my DMs are always open 💕

Meta Business Suite rolled out a new useful scheduling feature! You can request a review of your content before it gets scheduled and another user on the account can approve it ✅
This is useful for social media managers who have team members that have work you need to review or who have clients that want to see content before it’s posted. You can also use it as a small business owner that has employees helping with content!
I give this new feature an A+ ☀️

You do NOT have to post on social media every day to be successful 😱 I see this from SO many experts and it drives me bonkers! You have a small business to run and aren’t looking to be a social media creator/influencer for a career.
I have two things I truly believe about small businesses that thrive on social media:
1️⃣ They focus on quality over quantity. 3 posts in a week that your audience loves and shares is better than 7 posts in a week that get zero engagement.
2️⃣ They focus on being consistent! Many small business owners don’t have the time to post on social media every day and that’s a-okay! Choose a cadence that you can keep up with. If 2-3 times per week is what you can manage then stick to that. The algorithm rewards consistency and it’s better to be consistent than post 7 times one week and then take a hiatus for several weeks.
What other social media myths are you wondering about?
2024, am I right?!🤦🏼♀️ The algorithm can be SUPER frustrating especially for small businesses who just want to be seen on social media!
Have you ever poured your blood, sweat and tears into a piece of content and then it flops? 👋 It’s not just you!
And while I’m not on the trend of experts telling you that you have to record every detail of your life to turn into content (like eating cheese 🧀😂); there are some things we can learn about what’s performing well in the algorithm!⤵️
➡️ Keep it simple! Sometimes less is more. Don’t overthink what you can use for video content.
Ex: You own an HVAC company. Take a quick video of your guy inspecting an HVAC unit on the job or hopping into their van to run their route of the day.
➡️ Keep it short! People’s attention spans are very short and getting shorter. If you’ve got a longer video to share, a solid hook is critical!
➡️ Leverage organic video! What do I mean by this? People like feeling like they’re in the experience with you. Your video doesn’t need to look professionally produced ALL the time or have heavy editing.
Ex: You own a restaurant. Get a quick clip of a chef cooking.
And remember the algorithm will ALWAYS be changing, so what will keep you from losing your sanity is having your core messaging established and adapting it.

Hi 👋 I’m Sydney, a social media strategist for local businesses. I’m a toddler mama (and soon-to-be mom of 2) so I understand what it feels like to have limited time to dedicate to your marketing. If you’re looking for simple and effective marketing strategies, I’m your girl 👍
NEW Mini Series: Breaking Down Social Media Analytics 📈 First up, post reach!
The term is self-explanatory, but how can you interpret the numbers to inform your social media strategy.
Post reach can be a good indication for telling you two things: Did my content capture/engage my audience? Am I posting at a good time?
If the reach on a post was really good it could be a sign to try out posting on that day and time more frequently.
If the reach on a post was really good AND had a lot of engagement, it’s a sign that content was popular with your audience and something they want to see more of!
Social media analytics don’t have to be scary. They can actually be empowering and give you valuable feedback 🤩 What social media analytics term should I share about next?

Alright SMM friends, what’d I forget?
⏰ What days and times should I post to social media?⏰
My biggest pieces of advice:
➡️ Look at YOUR data and not a summary report created based on thousands of businesses
➡️ Think like your ideal customer
➡️ Don’t be afraid to test it out
