Years ago I started working for one of the Delaware Valley’s prominent car dealers assisting the owner with advertising and marketing. This was a exciting time for me creating ad campaigns for TV, Radio and Print as well as point of purchase. Specifically buying vehicles to advertise to generate sales. I learned everything about advertising and marketing cars, more importantly I learned the whole sales funnel up to the delivery of the car.

Today’s age of digital advertising has transformed advertising and now allows every used car dealer to advertise inventory to a cost effective, targetted audience. Now the small car dealer can compete with new car dealers for customers without spending a lot of dollars for acquiring consumers attention.

Basic advertising fundamentals still apply. You need to advertise your car while branding your dealership. With Facebook and Instagram you can do both cheap and cheerfully. Facebook gives you the optional carousel format so you can advertise 10 vehicles and have them link directly to your vehicle display page on your website. Yes, I know it’s hard to track results, but in today’s world the buyer wants instant information and linking the car to the VDP gives the consumer the instant information they need to make a decision.

I’ve used this carousel format for years because it puts your cars in front of potential buyers without them having search to find you amongst all the other vehicles on Autotrader, Cars.com or even Facebook Marketplace. Yes, you still need to be in these directories, but incorporating Facebook ads in consumers feeds increases brand awareness as well as advertising/displaying your cars. And these ads are pennies on the dollar to run.
