We all start off with these wild dreams as kids — dreams of who we want to become, what we want to create, and what we want to achieve….. and some of us keep having those dreams.

But for most of us, something happens and we end up not taking the path of fulfilling our dreams.

Something gets in the way and instead we end up taking a very traditional path: get a degree, get a job, then keep climbing the career ladder.

For some people, the traditional path works and they love it.

But for others, they go down the traditional path and they’re left wishing they went down another path.

Enter Farza Majeed, my guest on the new Inventing The Future Podcast episode, and his company, buildspace. 🎙

Farza created Buildspace to give an alternate path to the dreamers. They are building the Hogwarts for builders and dreamers.

In other words, Buildspace is a school for people that don’t want to just “get a job.

In this conversation we cover the Buildspace story, how Buildspace went through 10 pivots, how they built their community and culture, how Farza raised $10M, and more!

New episode dropped with 💥

“If you design your life to where you love it, you never need to escape it” — This is the core life philosophy of Alex Schachne

Alex is a former college basketball players and a 2nd time founder.

But Alex didn’t always have a clear idea of what path he wanted to take in his life.

So Alex went on a quest to interview incredibly successful people (cold emailed many of them) and hearing each person's life & career story gave him a chance to see which paths truly resonated with him. These conversations changed what Alex thought was possible for his future.

Alex now claims that his life’s “path is” to help people find theirs — to inspire people to do the things that inspire them.

This led Alex to build Paths (https://paths.audio) — a social network for students to explore life & career paths, and get advice or mentorship through short audio clips.

Alex is a solo founder and is currently a one man army, where he has built and done everything on his own — coding, design, and marketing.

Check out this episode to hear how Alex made the transition from college basketball player to founder, what he would do if he could restart his founder journey, and his philosophy on life design.

“I’m more worried about other startups than AWS or Google” — Eric Jung

After testing over 12 ideas and founding 3 companies, Eric Jung is currently focused on building Unreal Speech, a Text-to-Speech software service that is better and 8x cheaper than AWS. The text-to speech uses an ultra realistic AI narrator that is trained to sound audiobook-esque. The software can for example read any piece of text in the voice of Jordan Peterson or Gary Vee.

Eric is a South Korean founder living in San Francisco, and he became inspired to work on tools to help people consume information after learning to speak english by watching YouTube videos in english with closed captions in Korean.

Eric recently launched on Product Hunt, earning the #3 spot for the day and also raised $300K from the founders of Readwise, Shaan Puri, and Furqan Rydham.

In our chat, we cover
- Why Eric is bold enough to compete against giants like AWS and Google
- How he thinks about competition
- How he thinks about the future of AI and automation
- How he raised $300K
- His perspective on work life balance and why he surfs almost every day at 2pm even though he’s a busy founder

New Episode 🚀 From 12 Failed Ideas & $0.50 in the Bank to Raising $3.2M w/ .eth , Founder & CEO at Coinbooks

What would you do if you dropped out of college, pursued 12 different ideas but none of them worked, and only had $0.50 cents in your bank account at one point?

Would you give up or persevere?

Today’s guest, Arnav Bathla, decided to keep charging forward because he believes he was born to be an entrepreneur and he couldn’t possibly see any other option.

Arnav is originally from India and after dropping out of college and booking a one-way ticket to San Francisco over 2 years ago, he played around with different ideas and almost none of them solved a ‘pressing’ problem.

He went from one idea to the next until, at some point in his journey, he had less than a dollar in his bank account. But still, he never gave up.

Now Arnav is the founder & CEO at Coinbooks, a Web3 startup building an accounting software designed for crypto-native organizations. Arnav has raised $3.2 million from world-class investors like Multicoin Capital, and even Polygon’s MATIC very own founders. Coinbooks was also accepted into Y Combinator for the summer 2022 batch.

It doesn’t matter how you start as long as you start 💥

Where are you giving in your life? 🙏🏼

Whether it’s your time, support, advice, connections, wealth, or a listening ear, there’s always something you can give to others 👏🏼

Giving ignites reciprocity in others, which means they are more likely to give back to you. Therefore, if you want to receive, don’t take, just give the most of yourself.

Is your solution a vitamin or a painkiller? 😯

First, consider the magnitude of the problem you are aiming to solve...

1. Scale: How many people have the problem?
2. Frequency: How often does the problem occur?
3. Intensity: How intense is the problem when it does occur?

Then, get feedback from users to see how they feel about the product and its ability to solve pain points that they previously had.

One question you could ask your users is how they would feel if you took the product/service away from them.

Your product may initially start off as a vitamin but after constant cycles of building, getting feedback, iterating, and maybe even pivoting, you can turn your vitamin into a painkiller 💊

Gamers spend $40 billion/year on virtual goods 👾💸

Exhibit A: They buy skins to dress up their players. Except gamers don’t actually OWN them, the companies do. So why can’t those skins become NFTs? 🤔

Now with NFT games, gamers can actually sell these virtual assets for REAL 💲

The most popular NFT game right now? Axie Infinity: a play-to-earn game that’s generated $1.2 billion in revenue this year. Each player (an axis) is an NFT. You play the game to earn tokens to buy more NFTs. You play to earn REAL $ 🚀

Have you played Axie Infinity yet?

People are becoming digital real estate brokers in the Metaverse?! 🤯

What is the METAVERSE? It’s a virtual reality where people can communicate and transact with each other and with digital 3D items (like NFTs). It’s a living, breathing collaborative world online that doesn’t stop existing when you log off 👥

Sandbox and Decentraland are two popular metaverses right now. You can buy a PLOT OF LAND on them (the land plots are NFTs). They’re limited so they are a form of digital scarcity; the cheapest piece of land is $15,000 (a few hundred dollars a few months ago) 💸💲

What can you do with land?!

👾 Build a game where you and users can make $

🖼 Showcase your NFTs (Ex: Create a virtual museum & charge for viewing)

💸 Place ads or sponsorships that you can make money from

🎸 Have your own concerts or festivals

🎉 Host workshops, events, and private parties

🗄 Rent it out to someone who will pay you for it

What would you do with a digital plot of land?

Less than 15K out of 8M+ musicians make more than $50K per year (less than 0.2%) 😲

Musicians struggle to make money because getting discovered is difficult, royalties on streaming platforms are < 2/3 cents, and many artists are bought out by music labels and given little to no royalties 🎶❌

AND if you don’t have a large audience, you won’t make much from selling merch or going on tour 👎🏼

NFTs can solve this problem…tune into Ep. 22 Part 2 for more ⬆️

But NFTs are changing the economics of all creators and enabling them to monetize directly from their fans. How will you leverage NFTs?

Happy New Year!! 🎉🎇🚀

This time of year is special because you are naturally invited to reflect on the past year and think through some intentions and goals for the year to come.

I like to think about the past and the future as the yin & the yang of self-acceptance and self-improvement ☯️

I look back and congratulate myself for the great things I have managed to achieve and the person I have become. This is yin of self-acceptance & self-compassion. Then I look to the future and identify my greatest growth opportunities. This is yang of self-improvement.

Here is my mini reflection on this year 🤔

🏅 Greatest Achievements: starting my full time career with Meta as a Software Engineer and starting the Inventing The Future podcast, publishing 22 eps, and interviewing some insanely smart people that made my mind go 🤯

📖 Greatest Lesson: From my ceremony in Peru... There is nothing more beautiful than discovering and manifesting what you are capable of becoming, giving, creating, and achieving in this life... and on the contrary, there is nothing sadder than to leave your full potential untapped.

💪🏼 Biggest Growth Opportunity: Going to the gym 2-3 times a week and reading a minimum of 5 min / day. The greatest struggle for me this year was finding the time to do the things that are important but not urgent. This year, they are non-negotiable.

I’m immensely grateful for all the incredible support that I received and for the privilege of meeting so many new people this year 🙏🏼

What is your biggest goal this year?

WTF is an NFT? ⁉️ 🤔 🤯

No, NFTs are not Northern Fried Tacos and they are not Ninja Fighting Tattoos. NFT stands for non-fungible token.

To learn more about what that means, how NFTs work, how to buy NFTs, what to look for in NFTs, what the utility of NFTs are, and more check out the new episode #22 that just dropped today!

🤔 Why should you care about NFTs?

Because NFTs are a new technology and understanding them will give you an invaluable problem solving tool in your toolkit as an entrepreneur, a new way to raise money, access to golden investment opportunities, and so much more.

Here are some of the use cases for NFTs that are talked about in this episode

1. Digital Art / Collectibles (more valuable than you think)
2. Music
3. Access Based NFTs
4. Gaming
5. Redeemables
6. Identity
7. Credentials / Credibility
8. Land in the Metaverse
9. Fractionalized Ownership

Also, are going BOOM 🚀

1. The most expensive NFT was sold for $69.3 million
2. The market cap (total money in NFTs) of NFTs went from $17 million in January to $3.25 billion in August (19,000% increase in 8 months)
3. The trading volume went from $4.75 million to $6.5 billion in the last year (141,000% increase)
4. This year, the number of people that own an NFT went from 1 million to 25 million. This is truly insane exponential hockey stick type growth, and things are just getting started.

Want to be achieve your biggest & boldest dreams?
You need a powerful "WHY" that is capable of bearing any HOW 🔥

You need an MTP (Massive Transformative Purpose).

It should scare you, excite you, and catch in your throat when you tell others. It should drive you, motivate you, and drive your community toward a shared vision. It should be so captivating that you can’t ignore it 🥺🚀

How do you find your MTP? Here are 3 questions that recommends asking yourself:

❓1. If you had to wake up at 6:00 AM every morning to work on a problem, which problem would it be?

❓2. If you could spend a billion dollars to solve one problem globally, which one would it be?

❓3. If you had unlimited free time, what would you work on?
