In case you missed the memo, the state of Oregon turns 166 this Friday (which also happens to be Valentine’s Day). To celebrate, Sugarpine Drive-In in collaboration with USA Pears is featuring a special pear-forward menu all month long.

Why pears? In 2005, the pear was named the official state fruit. https://www.oregonlive.com/food/2025/02/sugarpine-drive-in-celebrates-oregons-166th-birthday-with-a-menu-featuring-the-official-state-fruit.html?utm_campaign=theoregonian_sf&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook

A stretch of Interstate 84 was closed to drivers headed west of Hood River for hours following multiple crashes Thursday morning and afternoon.

Four individuals with minor injuries were taken to local hospitals, according to Oregon State Police. Approximately two dozen cars were directly involved in the pileup and likely needed to be towed, according to Oregon Department of Transportation spokesperson Ryan McCrary.

Kilauea volcano began shooting lava into the air once again Tuesday on the Big Island of Hawaii.

Kilauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has been erupting on and off for nearly two months since it burst to life on Dec. 23. The eruption has been taking place at the volcano’s summit crater inside Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. No residential areas have been threatened by lava.

The latest release of molten rock began 10:16 a.m. with lava flowing on to the floor of Halemaumau Crater. A half-hour later, a vent shot lava about 330 feet (100 meters) high. https://www.oregonlive.com/nation/2025/02/hawaii-volcano-shoots-lava-into-air-captured-in-dramatic-video.html?utm_campaign=theoregonian_sf&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook
